Description
PATENTED NOV. 26, 1907.
H. D. BODLEY. INSULATOR.
APPLIOATIOIXILED man. 21. 1001.
House UNITED STATIES OFFICE.
HOMER-D. Bonner, or STANLEY, NEW YORK.
INBULATOR.
To all whom it may Be it known that I HOMER D. BODLEY, a
citizen of the United tates, residing at Stan-,
ley, in the county ofv Ontario and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Insulators, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawleased unintentionally, it may be easily attached and detached when desired.-
When read in connection with the particular description hereinafter, the details of construction. and arrangement of parts contemprlated by this invention will be a parent 0111 the accompanying) drawings, orming part hereof, wherein em odiments of my inventionare shown, for purposes of illustration.
Like reference-characters refer to corre- :IgODdlDg parts in the several views of the awings, of which- Figure 1 is a front view of one adaptation of my invention; Fi 2 is a side view thereof; and Figsy3 and 4 are views of other ads tations.
F dr attaching the insulator to a cross-tree or other sup ort, a bolt portion or shank 5, covered witli insulating material 6, is rov'ided, and on the screw-threaded end 0 the shank is a nut 7 which cooperates with a washer 8 and an insulated shoulder 9 to clamp the shank in place. Above shoulder 9 is a Petticoat or skirt portion or protector 10 to break or prevent a water connection between the running wire and the crosstree, this rotector flared outwardly from the s oulder and having its lower edge formed with serrations 10 to facilitate drip therefrom.
.The upper 'endof the shank terminates in a flattene portion-or surface 11, whereon is a transverse rojeetion or shoulder12 forming a w -s d recess or oove 3' to receive t e wire to be held. 0 clamp the wire Specification of Letters Patent.

into the groove a slide 14 is ositioned adja cent to said groove, held out e flattened portion by lugs 15, and arranged to move laterally into and out of the groove. For the purpose of moving, clampi and hol the slide against a wire in t e groove, an thereby securing ,the wire to the insulator, 'a cam 16, having an arm 17, is pivoted on the flattened port on and has 0 rative enga ement with the slide. It wil be seen that t e arm constitutes a weight which maintains the cam normally in such osition that the wire will be clamped by t e slide into the groove. Y Fig. 4 shows an ada tation of my invention to a socketed insu ator, the bolt ortion or shank being dispensed with, but t e fiattened surface, or portion being provided for i accommodation of the clamp and the associated parts.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. An insulator having thereon a oove arranged to receive a wire, a slide. a acent to said groove and movable ainst a wire therein, clani'p said sli e against the wire.
2. An insulator having "thereon a oove arranged to receive a wire, a slide a jacent and a Cpivoted member cooperable to to said groove and movable against ,a wire therein, and a pivoted member cooperable to clamp said slide ainst the wire and weighted to normally ho d the slide in clamped .position.
3. An insulator having a flattened surface, a shoulder projecting from said surface forming a groove arranged to receive a wire, a slide adjacent to said groove and movable against a wire therein, and a pivoted member cooperable to clamp said slide against I the wire.
4. An insulator having thereon a oove arm (1 to receive a wire, a slide a jacent to sald groove and movable against a wire therein, and a cam cooperable to clamp said slide ainst the wire.
I 5. T e combination with an insulator comprising means for attachmentwith a supporting member and means for holding a wire, of a flaring portion positioned between the s11pp uting-attaehingmeans and the wire- I pivoted member eoperable with said slide holding means whereby the one is insulated to clamp the slide against the Wire. 10 from the other. In testimony whereof I affix my sigimture 6. An. insulator having a shoulder p1'ojeet in presence of two witnesses.
5 ing therefrom and'ferming a groove arranged I HOMER- l). BODLEY. l0 reeeive s'wire, lugs on said insulator, a, Witnessesz, slide held by said lugs adjacent tosaid groove J. P. WILLIAMS, and movable against a 'Wire therein, and a l C. C. BURROUGHS.
