MUSIC-RACK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 19, 1907.
Application filed December 22. 1906. Serial No. 349.032.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that .l, ALBERT DE Lone, Sn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Shamokin, in the county of Northumberland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Music-Rack; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention pertains to a music rack or holder and has specific functions and value in connection with band instruments, which invention has for its prime object to provide a device of this particular nature comprising the essential features and combinations of elements, as willbe hereinafter clearly evident.
It will be manifest that the invention is extremely simple in construction, and comprises a frame having, at its lower portion, spring-actuated clamping means, for holding the lower portion of the music sheet, a vertically operated sliding extension having at its upper end an enlargement, to which a pair of lateral extensions are pivotally connected, each of which lateral extensions is provided with a movable spring-actuated clamping means, for the upper edge of the music sheet these lateral extensions, at their pivotal ends, are provided with means for holding them in their requisite positions, for holding the music sheet.
This invention comprises further objects and combinations of elements which will be hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and the novel features thereof will be pointed out by the appended claims.
To obtain a full and correct understanding of the details of construction, combinations offeatures, elements and advantages, reference is to be had to the hereinafter set forth description and the accompanying drawings in connection therewith, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of the music rack showing the lateral extensions in their proper positions for holding the sheet of Fig. 2 is a sectional view through the frame of the rack. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the movable clamping means carried bythe lateral extensions. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on line 44 of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a detail view illustrating the means for holding the lateral extensions when thrown in their proper positions for preventing displacement of the music sheets. Fig. 6 is a sectional view on line 6.6 of Fig. 1.
Making renewed reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts in the se vcral illustrations, by figures, 1 designates the frame of the device, which is supported by a suitable standard 2, which is provided with suitable feet 3, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawings. This frame has projecting therefrom a pair of ears 4, in which is journaled a rod 5, upon which is journaled ears 6 of the clamping member 7; mounted upon this red is a spring 8, of such contour or construction as to bear against the under face of one end of the clamping member, so as to force the opposite end against the sheets of music, which are mounted upon the frame; the ends of the clamping member which engage the sheets of music are provided with roughened surfaces 9, or teeth, so as to prevent sliding of the music sheet. This frame is provided with a vertically extending slot 10, in which moves a screw-threai'led stud 1 1 carried by the vertically operated sliding extension 12, a portion of which moves through a guiding member 13, which is riveted, bolted or otherwise suitably secured to said frame to prevent displacement thereof this screw-threaded stud is designed to receive a thumb nut 14, by which the said vertically operated sliding extension may be clamped in the proper position, to accommodate the device to different sizes of music sheets.
The vertically operated sliding extension is provided. with an enlargement 15 at its upper end, to which a pair of lateral extensions 16 are pivotally connected, as clearly shown, each of which lateral extensions is provided with a movable springactuated clamping means 16, for the upper edges of the music sheets. The clamping means comprise the clamping members 17 proper, to which. are
fixed a pair of cars 18, which are suitably journaled upon rods 19 suitably carried. by
the ears 20, of the base plates 21 thereof,
which base plates are provided with screwthreaded studs 22, which extend through slots 23 of the said lateral extensions, as clearly shown in the drawings. These screwthreaded studs are designed to receive thumb nuts 24, so as to clamp the said clamping means in adjusted position to receive different sizes of sheets of music. To hold said lateral extensions firmly when thrown up, their ends are provided with lugs 25, which are designed to engage apertures 27, as clearly shown in Fig. 5 of the drawings.
From the foregoing, the essential features, elements and the operation of the device, together with the simplicity thereof, will be clearly apparent. 7
Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new and useful by the protection of Letters Patent, is
In a music rack, a vertically slotted frame provided on its lower front portion with a spring-actuated clamp and having a guide on its rear upper portion, a vertical extension slidably mounted in said guide and provided with a stud movable in the slot in the frame, a nut on the stud, lateral extensions pivoted to the vertical extension, each provided with a lug adapted to engage in an opening in the vertical extension, and spring clamps carried by the lateral extensions and adjustable longitudinally thereon.
In testimony whereof 'I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of 25 two subscribing witnesses.
ALBERT DE LONG, SR. Witnesses JOHN TUoKnTT, PETER METZ.
