To rill dum'm a Be ii low ithat l, Janus FRANK Dunynii, a citizen of America, residing at Springfield, in the county of Hainpden and State of Massachusctts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Internal-( oinbustion Engines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to internal combustion engines and n. c particularly to an improvement in. applicants prior l'i'niled States Letters Patent No. 7 98,395 dated Swflc-mbcr 5, 1905 in which the Water circulating ihnnism, described therein, is difficult to leakage occurs from the same into the crank in order to overcome this serious objection, have devised the means set forth in detail in this appli tion by which any leakage that may occur at the packing box around the circulating pump shaft may flow down on the outside of the crank-case, and also I have provided means so that 'when it becomes necessary to replace the packing, the same may be accomplished without disturbing the assembled parts of the engine case.
In the drawings forming part of this application, Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal section through the commutator shaft. Fig. 2 is a detail View of my iznprovcment showing the circulating pump and its cas-' ing removed from the engine-frame and the clutch members between the commutator-shaft and the pumpshaft separated. As a result of the construction shown in this improvejoint about a rotating or rement, all danger of water escaping from the interior way. This is accomplished by placing a Wrench within the yoke-shaped part h and removing the machinebolts 0 whereby the entire circulating pump-casing n,
and the pump-shaft 03 may be removed from the yokeshaped part h, as clearly shown in Fig. 2', thus permitting the operator to remove the packing-nut q and replace the packing material u. I
The clutch construction, designated by 2, between the shafts d and d readily permits the coupling and i111- coupling of the pumpshaft to the driving or commutator-shaft d.
The construction of the water-tight joint and bearing for the outer end of the shaft d in the portion'x is the same as that already described in connection with the inner end of the shaft d and hub p, and does not therefore require detailed description.
The construction shown at the right-hand end of Fig. ,1 forms no part of this invention, and need not be referred to in detail. It may be stated, however, that the flexible shaft 10 is adapted to run the oiler, if desired.
What I claim, is:
1. In an internal combustion engine of the class described,
a base portion, :1 cam-shaft and commutator-shaft mounted therein and having means for driving one from the other, a yoke-shaped piece cam-led by the engine casing, a pumpcasing removably secured thereto, a pump located therein,

2. In an improvement of the class described, a yokeshaped piece secured pump-casing rcniovably secured to the yoke-shaped piece, a
-clutch connection between the shaft of the circulating pump and the commutator-shaft, a hub integral with the pump-casing and adjacent the clutch for receiving the watentiig'ht packing material, a packing-nut on the hub whereby when the casing is removed from the yoke-shaped piece the pump-shaft is disengaged from the commutatorshaft, and the packing-nut may be removed as described.
3. An improvement of the class described, an engine casing, a yoke-shaped piece having. a hub portion removably mounted in the engine-casing, a commutator-shaft, a sleeve to theeugine casing, a circulatingv encircling the commutatoi'shzrft and located between said shaft and the yoke-shaped piece, means for securing the yoke-shaped piece and bushing to the casing, a circulating pump-casing detachably secured to the arms of the yokeshapcd piece, a hub extending from the pumpcasing towards the engine-casing, bushings carried by the pumpshaft and located between the same and the hub, a packingnut on the inner end of the hub, a clutch connection be tween the commutator and the pun1p-shaft whereby when the pump-casing is removed from the yoke-shaped piece, the pump-shaft is disengaged from the commutator-shaft, and w'hereby any leakage from the pump is prevented from entering the crankcaslng.
