Description

PATENTED OCT. 22I 1907.

METAL VEHICLE BODY.
APPLICATION FILED APR.2 ,1907- -E STATE? PATEEQT HINSDALE' SMITH AND ARTHUR P. SMITH, or SPRINGFIELD, MASSAQHUSETTS.
METAL VEHICLE-BODY.
Specification of Letters-Patent.
Application filed April 2,19Q7...-Berial No. 365,902..
Patented. Oct. 22, 1907.
curely attaching the upholstering material. as leather attached to the upper edge of the seat'portion. Fig. 2
holstering secured to the wooden loow piece of the seat hody and immediately above the beaded portion is secured a molded bow-piece 0, preferably made of or'iabric.
In the metal bodies for vehicles as heretofore constructed it' has been customary to provide' thesame' with it rolled upper edge in' the rear part of the seat portion to which the upholstering was secured. This way of making the upper edge 01' the seat portion has made it difficult and expensive to securely and quickly fasten the upholste 'ing theret0. By-the' use of our improvement, hereinafter described, in which the substitution of a wooden rail or how piece for the'rol-led metal edge, thei upholsteringcan be readily secured to tie metal body'..- 1 p In the drawings which form a part of. this application: Figure I is a perspective view showing a portion of the metal body, and the wooden how piece, which is I i i 1 side of the seat portion with means for readily and sei l i I i is a sectional view on the line 22 of Fig. 1 looking in the direction of the arrow, with a portion of the uportion.
Referring to the drawingv :in detail ;a designates that portion of the-seat of the metal body to which my improvement relates, i i
b designates a beaded part of the seat portion of the wood, to which the upholstering is to be secured. 2%
This how-piece is secured to the rear side of the seat portion of the metal body a by any suitable means, as the screws (1.
The upholstering for the rear portion of the seat of the body is designated at e, and is carried up over the top 4o hi the how-piece c, as shown at the point f, and securely fastened to the rear side of the same by means of the tack s, designated at g, the filling material being desig 'nated at hi i i "lh'e beaded portion b serves the doublepurpose of strengthening the rear portion 'of the seat of the body and also as a bearing edge ioixthe wooden bow-piece c It will be seen therefore that we have produced a structure'that readily permits the upholstering material to be quickly and-securely fastened to the metal body portion oft-he vehicle and at a small expenditure of time and labor.
What we' claim is: c
-1. In a vehicle body, the seat portion'of the same having a bead-formed therein, a how-piece secured to the body portion and at the rear side of the sent portion 0! the, body; said bow-piece being of dififerent material than the body portion whereby the \ipholstering material, can be readily 'attached thereto.
2. In an'improvement of the ciassdescrihed, the metallic body and an attachment therefor for securing the upholstering thereto, said attachment. being located "at the rear side of the seat'portion, and consisting of a molded bow-piecm a head in the body portion, adjacent to the bow-piece as described.
3. In, an improvement of the class described, a metal body having a headed portion near the upper edge of the seat thereof. a wooden how-piece secured to the rear sid;
and flush with the upper edge of the seat portion, and uphol'stering attached to the rear side of the'bow-piece, 7 5
said how-piece being adjacent to the upper side 02 the headed portion. g I
