Description

- PATENTED OCT. 15, 1907.
J. RAMB. TAILORS DUMMY. APPLICATION rum) ran. 1a, 1906.
FIG. 4
FIG. 1
WITNESSES:
- l/VVE/VTUR Jacob: RAMs. I BY 6 I AZLOIIWJ'S 1n: NORRIS PETERS cm, WASHINCTBN, o. c,
UNITED STATES JACOB RAMB, OF BERLIN, GERMANY.
TAILOR S DUMMY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 15, 1907.
Application filed Febr ary 16, 1906. Serial No. 301,526.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB RAMB, master tailor, a subject of the Kingdom of Prussia, residing in Berlin, Germany (Waldemarstrasse 39), have invented certain new and useful Improvements in or Pertaining to Tailors Dummies, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to tailors dummies of that type wherein a dummy of normal form is surrounded by an inflatable elastic casing of indiarubber or the like, which, when inflated, serves completely to fill up such deviations from the normal standard as are liable to occur in the inextensible pattern lining which has already been carefully fitted to the wearer. Casings of smooth rubber such as have heretofore been provided are subject to the disadvantage that deviations from the normal standard occasionally arise of a magnitude so considerable as to cause the bursting of the casing before the pattern lining has, at the particular point desired been completely filled up.
Now in order to obviate this inconvenience, the inflatable casing is, in accordance with this invention, provided with folds, that enable the extensible material of which it is composed to be drawn towards a dangcrous part for the purpose of obviating undue extension and rupture.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate an example of apparatus in accordance with this invention, Figure 1 represents a development of a pattern lining. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section; Fig. 3 is a side elevation, showing the extensible casing uninflated; and Fig. 4 the dummy showing its extensible casing inflated, and surrounded by the pattern lining In the example of apparatus illustrated in the drawings the dummy a of normal form consists of an inflatable hollow rubber body that is furnished with an inflating tube 0 provided with a mouthpiece and a check valve. The local stretching of the extensible casing b which surrounds the dummy a is provided with folds and can thus, when the casing is inflated, be efiected easily and without friction, even at those points where the pattern lining fits tightly upon the normal dummy, and where the folds e would, were it not for the yielding character of the inflated normal dummy,
be liable to become jammed between it and the lining. The extensible casing b is inflated in the usual manner by means of one or more tubes d, provided with mouthpieces and check valves. The air whereby the casing is inflated can, as shown in Fig. 4, be forced by hand towards that part of the lining which requires to be filled up. The casing b furnished with folds is at f and g firmly connected by vulcanizing to the normal dummy a.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States., is
In a device of the character described, an inflatable normal dummy, comprising" an inflatable hollow rubber body, and an inflation tube communicating with the inte rior thereof, combined with an inflatable casing surroundingthe normal dummy, and secured thereto at its ends near the ends of the normal dummy, said inflatable casing provided throughout its length with vertical folds, and an inflation tube for the inflatable casingindependent of the inflation tube of the normal dummy.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name this 3rd day of February 1906, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JACOB RAMB.
