Description
fittest fit tent JAMES P. BRIDGE, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSE TTS. Letters Patent N0. 86,808, dated February 9, 1869.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES P. BRIDGE, of Boston, in the county of Sufiolk, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and improved Compound for PreservingVVood and Leather, and Rendering Wood Non- Oombustible; and I do hereby-declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in {the art to make and use the same.
After the wood or leather has been subjected to a sufiicient degree of heat or superheated steam to evaporate all moisture therefrom, it is to be subjected to a bath of vaporized sulphate of ammonia, to render the wood non-combustible. This vapor, penetrating into and saturating the pores of the wood, not only renders it non-combustible, but also acts as a powerful preservative of the wood, which is previously subjected to theaotion of a hydrocarbon-vapor, formed from heated rosin mixed with salt. which, by actual expenment and many tests, has been ascertained-to be an excellent J.l1e-preservation of wood and leather by the action of a hydroearbon-vapor, formed from rosin and salt, substantially as set'forth.
Also, subjecting, wood tothe action of. vaporized sulphate of ammonia, for the purpose of preservation and rendering it non-combustible, substantially as set I forth.
