CHARLES SUMNER SMITH, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
LABEL ATTACHMENT FOR COATS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 1, 1907.
Application filed April 1, 1907. Serial No. 365,756.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES SUMNER SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Label Attachments for Coats; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to an improved yoke, to which a name for marking a coat or other garment may be applied.
The object of the invention is to provide a singleply garment with a yoke to which a mark or label may be attached without marring the appearance of the garment.
Another object of this invention is to provide a coat during its manufacture with an attachment on which the name of the person for whom it is designed may be placed, and in the event of his discontinuing the use of the garment, then the name of another person may be substituted without interfering with the construction of the coat, or defacing the back thereof.
This invention is especially designed for use on waiters, barbers, bar tenders or other coats, which are made of a single thickness of duck or similar material.
This device is especially useful for coat and towel supply companies, which supply fresh coats to barbers and others each week. Should a customer desire his name on the coats furnished to him, it may be readily applied by stitching a label or hanger to the neck piece or yoke of the coat, as hereinafter described, and when said customer discontinues the use of these coats, the name label or hanger maybe removed and another placed thereon.
In the accompanying drawings,Figure 1 represents an elevation of the inside of a coat showing this improved device applied thereto; Fig. 2 represents a sectional view through the neck of the coat showing the device in place thereon; and Fig. 3 represents a top plan view of the inside of the neck portion of a coat, with this device applied.
In the embodiment shown in the accompanying drawings, a coat 1 has a reinforcing yoke portion 2, cut to fit the back of the coat and secured during its manufacture in the neck and shoulder seams. This yoke is left free at its lower edge, and has stitched or otherwise secured thereon, a name label 3 and a loop 4 for hanging it up. If desired the name may be placed on the hanger loop 4. This yoke is preferably stitched down at 5 to hold it in proper position, as shown in Fig. 3, leaving its lower edge loose for about four inches to provide for the ready insertion and removal of a label by stitching or otherwise without the fastening means penetrating and marring the material of the garment.
The name of the company to whom the coats belong is preferably woven in the material from which the yoke is formed as shown in Fig. 1.
I claim as my invention,
A garment having a reinforcing yoke member secured at its top and sides in the seams of the garment, said yoke member having its lower edge left free to provide for the fastening and removal of a label to and from said yoke and .avoid attachment thereof to the material of the garment.
In testimony whereof Ihave hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing; witnesses.
CHARLES SUMNER SMITH.
