WILLIAM H. H. HILL, BR, OF SULLIVAN, INDIANA.
ELECTION-BOOTH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 1, 1907.
Application filed December 15,1906. Serial No. 348,016.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. H. HILL, Sr., a citizen of the United States, residing at Sullivan, in the county of Sullivan and State of Indiana. have invented a new and useful Election-Booth, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in voting booths and has for its object to provide a booth that is very light and cheap in construction and one that can be folded into a small bundle so that it can be readily carried from place to place and stored in a small space.
With these ends in view the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts, hereinafter more fully described and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the booth. Fig. 2 is a front view of the booth folded. Fig. 3 is a top plan view, and Fig, 4 is a vertical sectional view through one of the end compartments.
Referring to the drawings A, indicates a voting booth which consists of a plurality of compartments a, b and 0, formed by a series of rectangular frames B, C, D, and E, each of the frames are constructed of parallel bars (I and e, cross bars f and g and a central bar h, the frame being covered by a sheet of canvas or like material.
The frames are pivotally connected together at their top and bottom by links F, G, and H, the frames being held in .an opened position by brace rods I, and K, which are pivotally connected to the outside frames B, and E, the ends being securely fastened to the central link G, by a bolt '5. The back of the booth being inclosed by a canvas sheet L.
The compartments are provided with shelves M, which are hinged to the central cross bar hof the frame B, O, and D, and are supported by cleats N, secured to the cross bars h, of the frames 0, D, and E. These shelves also form braces when in a lowered position, helping to steady the booth.
To the bars d, of the frame that carry the shelves are secured buttons 0, which look the shelves when it is desired to fold the booth for transportation. The entranceof each compartment is provided with a curtain P, which protects the voter from view while inside the booth.
By constructing a booth as described I not only provide a booth that is very light and cheap in construction, but I provide a booth that can be readily folded into a small space for transportation.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:-
1. A booth comprising a series of canvas covered frames pivotally connected together by links, braces carried by the end frames, shelves hinged to the center bar of the frame,- curtains carried by the links at the top of the frames, and means carried by one of the links for locking the braces together, as set forth.
2. A booth comprising a series of canvas covered frames pivotally connected by the links, hinged shelves arranged in the compartments, formed by the frames, braces pivotally connected to the outside frames, and means carried by the central link for locking the braces to the same, as set forth. I
3. A booth comprising a series of compartments formed of a plurality of rectangular frames, links arranged on the exterior of said compartments, pivotally connecting said frames together, braces pivotally connected to the outside end frames at one end, and at the other end connected to one of said links, curtains carried by links at the top of the frame, hinged shelves arranged in the compartments, buttons arranged on said frames for holding the shelves in a folded position, and means carried by the central link at top of said frames for locking said frames in an extended position.
