Description

- I IJ s'ragnsj gnmfi? ARTHUR EICHENGRI'JN, OF ni'issewonr, GERMANY, ASSIGNOR TO YORM. F iIEDR. BAYER & '00., (5F ELBERFELD, GERMANY, A COR'iOBATION-OF GERMANY.
GENERATION OF FQRMALDEHYDE GAS.
Patented Sept. 24, 1907.
' .To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Arirnun Eicnnuoizij'x, doctor 0i philosophy, chemist, a citizen or" the German Empir, residing at Dusseldorf, Germany, Kingdom of- Prussia, have invented new and useful improvements intl enerationjof Eonnaldehyde Gas; of which the following is-a specification.
This invention relates to a new process r 5Iiemt ing gasedusionhaldehyd, which process consists in treating an aqueous formaldehyde solution with metallic peroidds havingen alkaline 'i'eaction, suchassodilim'peroxid Na o bar'iu'm peroxid BaO stronti'u n peroxidSrO etc. 011 using f'r instance the. commercial formaldehyde'solution 200 pints of a 40' percent. formaldehyde solution; are poured upon 5() of barium peroxid (Bat),). A lively evolution fsotgaa takes place with generation of heat and the liquid begins to boil, gaseous formaldehyde and' steam being given 0fi-which may be used for d isiniccting purposes This reaction is probably due to catalysis.
Having now described my invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, what I claim as new and desire (lo-secure by Letterslatent is:-
' 1. The process of generating gaseous formaldehyde,
which consists in treating an aqueous formaldehyde solution with metallic peroxids having an alkaline reaction, substantially as described.
2. T,he process of generating gaseous formaldehyde, which consists in treating an aqueous formaldehyde solu- -tion with barium pcroxid. substantially as described.
. In testimony whereof ,I have hereunto set my hand inthe presence of two sub'scril ing witnesses.
. ARTHUR EICHENGRfiN. [n.s.1 Witnesses:
OTTO Komc, I J. A. Ri'rrr'nnsxws.
