WILLIAM W. BENSON, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
SUPPORT FOR ELECTRIC GONDUCTORS.
Specification of Letters Patent,
Patented Sept. 24, 1907.
Application filed August 14,1905. Serial No. 274,094.
To all NJ/1.07M it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM W. BnNsoN, a citizen ol' the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Support for Electric Conductors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is a device, as a molding, for supporting electric conductors on ceilings and walls, and it comprises in its preferred construction, a strip of wood provided with one or more channels with side corrugations or irregularities and one or more grooves parallel to the channels forming one or more elastic members at 1 he sides of the channels, whereby the channels are adapted to be sprung open to permit the insertion of a wire having an insulating covering and to automatically grip the wire when inserted.
The leading purposes are to provide a readily constructed, inexpensive and convenient conductor support in the form of a molding.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a transverse sectional view representing a molding e1nbodying the invention: Fig. 2 is a plan view and Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view representing a modified form thereof.
In the drawing, the molding strip 1 has therein the longitudinal channels 2 with the irregular or corrugated sides 3. Adjacent to one or more of the sides of these channels is a groove or grooves 4. parallel thereto and of such character as to form flexible tongues 5 adapted to be sprung away from the channels to open them for the ready insertion of the wires 6 and to antomatically grip the wires when seated. The wires, being thus held in place, are inclosed by securing the cap 7 on the seat 8.
Having described my invention, I claim 1. A supporting device for an electric conductor having an open channel with side corrugations adapted for engsing and holding a conductor and a cup for covering said channel.
2. A supporting device for un electric conductor havingan open channel with a corrug'z'ited side and a groove [orniing a flexible member adapted to be sprung to permit the insertion of a conductor in said channel.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this tenth day of August 1005, in the presence of the subscribing witnesses.
WM. W. BENSON.
