To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, THOMAS E. MULROYAN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at De Kalb,

in the county of Dekalb and State of Illinois, have invented-new and useful Improvements in Jar-Holders, of which the following is a specification. I

This invention relates to jar holders, designed more particularlyior holding fruit jars during the process of securing the cap thereto or removing the cap therefrom, and one oi the principal objects of the invention is to provide a device for this purpose which can be quickly adjusted for oi different sizes.

Another object oi the invention is to provide a tool or device for the purpose referred to which will firmly hold a jar, innnediatcly after the fruit has been cooked therein, i'orseeuring the cap thereto, said tool or device being also convenientior holding cans while they are being opened with an ordinary can opener.

The objects referred to may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:

Referring to the drawing for a more particular description of my invention, the numeral 1 designates a handle which may be conveniently formed of wood and provided with an open slot or recess 2 for the end of a clamping strap or band 3. The opposite end of the strap 3 is provided with a series of perforations 4 adaptpoint to permit the loop 7 to firmly clamp a jar or can during the process of removing or attaching the cap or in cutting out the top of the can with an ordinary can opener.

The operation 0i my invention may be briefly referred to as follows: The winged nut 6 being removed irom the bolt 5, the flexible band 3 is passed around the jar or can, said bolt being passed through one of the perforations 4 in the strap so that the loop 7 will extend around the jar and hold it firmly, the nut then being placed upon the bolt and turned to hold the strap firmly to the handle 1.

From the ioregoing it will be obvious that a device made in accordance with my invention is of simple construction, may be quickly applied to a can or jar, that the bolt 5 serves the double purpose of holding one end of the strap rigidly and the other end adjustably to the handle. Furthermore; the broad face of the winged nut clamps against the strap and prevents the tearing out of the perforations in the strap 3 since it takes the strain from the perforation by clamping the strap tightly to the handle.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim A jar holder comprising a. handle provided with a recess in the inner end thereof, a strap having one end seated in said recess, and the opposite end provided with a series of perforations, and a bolt passing transversely through the end of the handle intersecting the recess and fastening the strap and therein, said bolt having a threaded end projecting beyond the handle and adapted to engage the said perforations, and a winged nut thereon for clamping the perforated end of the strap to the handle adjustably, substantially as described.
