Be it known that I, FRANCIS J. JACKSON, 1L citizen of the United States of America, residing :11 Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Window-Cleaning Devices, of which tin.- following is a specification, reference being bud therein to the 110 companying drawing.

This invention relates to window cleaning devices, and the invention has for its object to provide :1 novel device for removing moisture, snow and rain from car windows, the device being particularly designed for street cars whereby a. motorman can clean lire outside of a. platform window and prevent his view frmuiwing obstructed.

To this end, I have devised a. window elcnning' d crimwherein a scraper is movably mounted upon the outer side of the window frame and adapted to engage the pane oi the frame, the scraper being manually moved upwardly and automatically returned to its nornni position. k

The detail construction entoring'into my invention will be hereinafter more fully described and then specifically pointed out in the appended claims.

Figure 1 is a front elevation of a window frame equipped with my improved device which is illustrated partly in front elevation and partly in section, Fig, 2 is a vertical sectional view of a window frame illustrating the device in elevation, and Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of a portion of the scraper and an end connection thereof.

In the accompanying drawing, 1 h-rwe illustrated a Window frame or each comprising side rails l, a. top rsiil 2 and a. bottom rail 3, said rails holding in position a pane of glass 4. Upon the front of the side rails l, I secure two vertically disposed tubes 5, said tubes being provided adjacent each end with flanges 6, whereby said tubes can be secured to the frame or sash by screws 7 or similar fastening moans. The confronting sides of the tubes 5 are slottotL'us at 8, and mounted between said tubes and extending into sold slots is a scraper 1) having a resilient strip 10, such as rubber engaging the pane of glues 4. The ends oi the scraper 9 protrude through the slots 8 into the tubes 5 and are provided with books ii, to engage in openings 12 formed in the upper ends of the shelves 14 right in the tubes 5. The sleeves l4 are suitably connected at their lower end. to elastic cords or cables 15, which pass over grooved pulleys l6, journnlcd in the lower ends of the tubes 5. The opposite ends of the elastic cords or cables 15 are suitably fastened in the upper ends oi the tubes 5, as at 17.

What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
