To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, REINHQLD H. WAPPLER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Interrupter Apparatus, ol

Heretofore in the production of the so-called Tesla currents, an apparatus has been employed commonly comprising a spark coil,-an armature mounted to re volveon a suitable axle, the axle being provided with a fiattenedportion'or cam,s. spring, a pair of contact employed to produce the Tesla currents.

Now hereto- It will be-understood that a mechanical interrupter other than that hereinbei'orc described, may be em ployed without departing from the nature and spirit of my invention.
Referring particularly to Fig. l, in which the mechanical interrupter is shown together with the other parts diagmimnatically, h is an electro-inagnet so placed that the core thereof is in alinement with the armature d at two points in its revolution.
11 is the customary Rurnkorff coil employed in X-ray apparatus, l a condenser and 'm. a suitable generator or other source of electricity; the positive terminal of the generator in is connected through a suitable resistance m with one terminal of the primary winding of the Ruhmkorfl coil by the wire 5 an d the other end of the primary winding of the Ruhmkorff coil by the wire or connection 6 to the binding post 7 in electrical connec tion with the spring 9 and contact point 4-, the contact point 3 being connected to the negative terminal of the generator through the binding post 8 and wire 9.
From a junction point 10in the wire 5, the wire ll is taken and connected with one terminal of the coil of the electro-rnagnet h, the other end of the magnet coil bding connected by a wire 12 with a binding post 7, while the condenser l is connected across the contact points 3, 4 by the wires l3, 14, leading from its respective terminulsto the binding posts 7, 8, it being understood that the wires 15 from the terminals of the secondury windiiig of the Ruhmkorif coil 71 lead to the terminals ol' the vacuum tube, as is customary in X-ray apparatus. From the hercinbefore described arrangement of the devices comprisingthe X-ray apparatus, it will be understood that the elcctro-megnet hand the primary winding of the Ruhmkorfi coilnre in multiple wi't-h one another and are both in series with the circuit through the contact points 3, 4, by means of which the circuit is interrupted. Now with the parts in the position the same is energized and imports an impulse to the armature d tending to turn thesume to the position 1 shown in Fig. l, but beiorc reaching this position the contacts' 4 are parted again through the cum action of the flattened portion of the axle against 1hrspringg und the momentum of the urinoiure curries the some over [he nnignetic dcud center position shown in'tho drowing. When the circuit is closed ihrough the magnet coil l1, it will :ilso be closed in multiple therewith through the primary of th Ruhmkorfi coil 2' thereby setting up an induced current in'the secondary oi the Ruhmkorff coil which is utilized by being discharged through a vacuum tube in Xwray work or otherwise as .5. desired. Now as will be understood when the circuit throughthe primary of the Ruhmkorfi' coil is closed --there will be a self induced current set up therein,
which in View of the connections and circuits hereinbefore described wilhbe discharged through the magnet coil h, energizing the same and thereby imparting an additional impulse to the armature d which increases-the rapidity with which the same and the axle c revolve.
