GAS-BURNER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 20,' 1907.
. Application filed January 4, 1907. Serial No. 350,703.
Our invention T lllita to gas burners and has for its Object. the provision of a device of this character constructcd in such nmnucr that the proportions of air and 1 gns uni he readily regulated, and constructed in such manner that it plentiful supp y of all! may he obtained Further objects and :tdtnntztges ol' the invention will be set forth in the detailed description which now l'ol "lows:
in the net-tnnpttuyiug drawing: Figure l is a vertical section of it gas burner constructed in ztccordalnce with i the invention, illustrating-the gns vnlve and pipe upon which it is supported, in elevation, and, Fig. 2 is it horizontal section upon line as x of Fig. l. t
Like numerals designate corresponding parts in both of the figures of the d rowing.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 5 designates a gas supply pipe and the nuniernl 6 designated-a valve controlling the ilow of gas from the pipe 5 to the nipple 7. Brackets b serve to support it c-ip 9, the bottom 01* this cup forming a spider 10. The cup\9 supports :t cylindrical casing 11 which is closed at the top and is perforated around its sides adjacent the top as at 12. A platealB spans this casing and is provided with a depending l'unnel 14, this funnel opening through the plate l3as at 15. A tube 16 is centrally located within the casing 11, extends through the funnel .14 and is threaded at 17 into the spider, said spider being enlarged its at. 18 for this purpose. A lock nut 19 serves to retain the tube 16 in its adjusted position, it being understood that this tube may be screwed up or down for a limited distance. Threaded upon the lower end of the tulle it} is it sleeve 20 whith lies over the nipple 7.
The opcrittitni 01' the device is 11-5 follows: Gas is admitted through the valve (3, passes through the nipple 7 and sleeve 20 to the pipe 16. During its passage from the'nipple 7 to the sleeve 20, a certain quantity of air is mixed with the 'us and the proportions between the air and gas may be readily determined by screwing the nipple 20 up or down upon the tube 16. The air and iug H, where it is igniteth the gtts burning iu'ound the edge of this casing and iorutiu; n pointed lltunc above silitl casing. .\ll nlso passes between tltt arms of the spider and up tluough the tunnel l-l mixing with the nit'ttudcns from the tuhe l5 :it the upper end oisnid tube and providing 1t perfect coiuhustion. Screws 21 provide menus for securing the casing it to the (,up 9.
It has been found that n burner constructed {IS herein shown and described, produces :1 clear blue iluiu indientive of perfect combustion :llltl yields a maximum degree of hunt.
\\hile the elements shown and described are well adapted to serve the purposes for which they tilt int nded, it is to he understood that the invention is not limited to thtprecise construction set forth, but includes within its purview such changes as may he made within the scope of the appended claims.
What we claim, is:
i. in a device of the character described, the combination with :1 (using which is closed nt the top and open tit the holtoiu and which has :1 series of openings foilped through llll wall thereof ndjucent said closed top, of 11 Hill! centrally located within suid casing and terminating between the top of the cnsing and the center of the (Basins, an inverted funnel surrounding said tube, :1 plate which supports suid funnel and which closes the cnsing around said funnel, n mixing sleeve located upon the lower end of the tilllt, and'u gas nozzle adapted to. discharge into said nilxi ig sleeve.
:2. ln" :1 device of the character described. the cornblnm .tion with a casing which is closed at the top and open at tlic hottoiu and which hits a series of openings formed WILLIAM F. SCATTFlllL-EY. .lOilN LAWRENCE It'liiTER.
