ALFRED DUVALL, OF B-ALTI MORE, MARYLAND. Lettcrs Patent No. 86,289, dated January 26, 1869.
IMPROVED METHOD OF MIXING LIOUIDS WITH DUST OR POWDER FOR THE. NAHU- FACTURE 01" PHOSPHATES, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
any other pulverized substance, and, when necessary or desired, for quickly precipitating the .finest pulverized matter in a receiver; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of .the construction and operation thereofi-reference being bad to the accompanying drawing, and letters of reference thereon, making apart of this specification, in whichthe figure is a longitudinal section in elevation, being the only drawing deemed necessary. to fully illustrate the principles involved.
To enable others skilled in mechanics to make and use myinvention, I will proceed to describe the construction and operation of the same.
The character of my invention, as shown by the accompanying' drawing, and described in this specification, consists in using a jet of steam or blast of air, created by a fan'or otherwise, blowing against or in contact with a column of vitriol, or other liquid, and the granulated or pulverized matter being treated, whether exhausted from a mill while being pulverized, or descending from a spout and falling incontact with the liquid used and the blast of steam or air.
A is the pipe, through which the material being treated is blown or exhausted, and into which the acid or liquid used passes, as also the blast of steam or air.
B, the spout, through which the granulated or pulverized matter, when not exhausted, falls into the pipe into the pipe A.
D, a-valve, in the pipe G, by which the quantity of liquid being used is regulated or shutoff entirely.
E, a steam-pipe, connecting with the pipeA.
F, a valve, in the stcazn-pipeE.
G, a fan, with a pipe, H, connecting withthe pipe A.
I, a receiving-chamber. in which the matter being treated-is-precipitated.
J, a pulverizing-anill or chamber, connecting with the ,reverse end of,the pipe A.
Operation.
- The steam or air, whichever is being ured, is forced into the pipe A, creating a blast. The granulated or pulverized matter being treated and the liquid being used are then let into the, pipe A, through the pipes B and 0, and, by means of the blast, are thoroughly mixed and blown into and precipitated in the receiving-chamber I. If exhausting from a mill or chamber, J, connected with the pipe A at the reverse end of the arrows, the pulverized matter from that point is exhausted, mixed, and precipitatedin the chamber I. As will be nndcrstood'from the aforegoing description, the operation of mixing and precipitating may be carried on at the same time from the spouts B and O and the pulverizing-mill or chamber J at the reverse.
, of involving the "same general principles of construction or operation.
