certain new and useful Improvements in Wood-Sawing Machines, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to improvements in wood sawingr machines and consists in the novel construction,
. on a farm or ,cutting combination and arrangement of parts' hereinafter described and claimed.'
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and l practical power saw which is especially adapted for use cord wood, fence posts, and the' like.

My improved wood-sawing machine is preferably made portable by making its body-'or main frame 1 in the form of a truck or wagon body. Any suitable run .l ing preferably made of two longitudinal or side beams 6 connected at their top andbottom edges by cross boards 7, 8, so that in the body 1 is formed a chamber 9 in which may be placed tools, implements, water and oil tanks, etc. Y
Mounted upon the top orooring of the body formed by the boards 7 is an engine or motor 10 of any suitable description. I preferably employ a gasolene engine and arrange it so that its crank shaft 11 is disposed transversely of the body 1, at about its center. Upon one end of the shaft 11 is the usual fly wheel 12 and upon its front end I secure a circular cross-cut saw 13. The end of the shaft projects through the saw and the latter is secured thereon by two clamping disks 14. The projecting end ofthe shaft is mounted in a'lbearing 15 provided upon alongitudinally extending beam or support 16- arranged parallel with and slightlyv above one side of the body 1. l

end supported by a brace or bracket 18 secured upon one Iside of the body at its' iront end and upon one side of a carriage supporting frame 19. The latter consists of ltwo parallel transversely extending beams 20, 21 connected at tlicirouter ends, which project a suitable distance to one side of the body l, by a longitudinal end beam 22 and at their inner ends by two longitudinally extending and alined beams 23, 24. lliebcam 23 is arranged betwecn the inner end of the beam 2 0 and the rear face of the beam 21, the inner end of which latter projects across the space 25 between the beam 16 and the side of the body 1 and has its end secured to the beam 16, as clearly shown in Fig. l. The beam 24 has its .front end secured to the bracket 18 and its rear end secured to the front face of the beam 2l.
Upon the upper edges of the beam 22 and the two alining beams 23, 24 are secured metal plates 26, the inner edges of which project beyond Said beamsand are engaged by the bent or hook-shaped ends 27, of metal platos 2S secured upon the bottom on the work carriage 29. The plates 26 thus serve as'tracks upon which the guides 27 may slide, so that,thc carriage may be moved longitudinally toward and from the saw. The carriage 2 9 consists of a horizontally disposed board 30 on the-bottom of which the guides 27 are secured, and to the rear edge of which is secured, by right-angular brackets or cleats 31, an upright or vertical board 32.
Slidably mounte'd upon the beam 16 are bearing slides 33which carry between them a roller 34 by means of which'the work to be sawed may be readily placed upon the carriage'. The slides 33 are in the form of l U-shaped blocks, the parallel arms 35 of which engage the opposite side faces of the beam 16 and in the upper ends of which are provided openings 36 for the shaft or journa1`37 of the roller 34. The slides33 and the roller 34 are caused to move with the carriage 29 by providing a bracket 38 which latter has one of its 'ends secured to the carriage and its other end engaged with one of the slides 33 and apertured to receive the pro-` ally and to facilitate this operation, a strap or flexible element 40 is attached to the front edge of the carriage and is adapted to be passed around the waist of the 0p- -erator. lOne end of the strap ispermane'ntly attached to one end of the carriagaas at 41, and the otherend carries a hook 42 which may be readily engaged with and disengaged from a staple or eye upon the carriage adjacent toits other end. The saw 13 is of comparatively larger diameter and to prevent it from readily with the accompanying drawings, it is thought that the construction, operation and advatages of the invention will be readily understood without a more extended explanation, v
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:- v
1. A Wood sawing machine comprising a main frame,
a supporting beam spaced from one side of said frame and extending parallel therewith, bearings upon said frame and said beam, a saw arbor mounted in said bearings, a circular saw upon said arbor arranged in the space between said frameandsaidbeam, guides upon said main frame, a Work carriage slidable Vupon said guides toward and from the saw, inverted U-shaped bearing blocks slidable upon the upper edge of said beam and having their parallel depending arms slidably engaged with the side faces of said beam, a shaft connecting said bearing blocks and extending longitudinally above the upper edge of said beam, a roller mounted upon said shaft and disposed opposite one end`of the carriage and a curved bracket secured at one'of its ends to said carriage and at its opposite end to a projecting end of said shaft and the adsoasse I yits crank shaft projecting beyond one side of said body, a
circular saw upon the projecting end of said crank shaft, transverse beams arranged upon the top ofv the body and projecting upon opposite sides of the s`ame,.a long longitudinal beam mounted upon the projecting ends of said g cross beams on one side of the body and arranged parallel with s ad side, short longitudinal beams connecting certain of said transverse beams, tracks upon said short longitudinal beams, a carriage, guides upon the bottom of said carriage for sliding engagement with said tracks, a bearing upon said long longitudinal beam for the projecting end of the shaft of the saw, inverted U-shaped bearing blocks slidably mounted upon the upper' edge of said long longitudinal beam, a rod or shaft connecting the upper ends of said bearing blocks, a` roller mounted upon the last mentioned shaft and arranged atone end of the car riage and above the upper edge of said longitudinal beam, and a curved brace secured at one of 'its endsto said carA riage and at its other end to the'last mentioned shaft and the adjacent bearing block, substantially as shown and for the purposes set forth. l 4
