MODE F PRonUeING CEMENT CLINKER.
'. Modes of Producing' Cement Clinker in the Manufacparticularlyto the maintaining and-agitating of .fin ly ture of Cement, of which 'the following is a specification. .4 I
Our invention hasrelation to the mode of producing .celiient clinker, in' which certain economies in theT quantity and quality of fuel employed in connectiony therewith are derived, as hereinafter described; ang
in such general 'connection our invention relates moi/'a I divided raw cement materials and finely divided fuel,
with such fuel consumed by the time the clinkering is effeeted.`
The principal object of our invention is to provide a mode of producing cement clinker by subjecting finely divided raw cement materials mixed with finely dividelgjfuelj'in a rotary revcrheratory kilnto expose grainser particles of the materialsand fuel, `both in a non-cohcring condition to the influence 'of the highly 'heated gases and air ofthe kiln derived from the primary fuel of thekilnus well as to the influence'of the highly heated wall ofthe kiln, the heating of'v which emanate'd from the same source, to thereby effect not only thorough clinkering of the cement materials, but also to obtain a higher resultant efficiency from the combustion of the finely divided fuel mixed with such raw cement materials in the production of the cement clin er, with thereby a great saving in the quantity of u mployed in the production of a given quantity of cement clinker' and'- with a marked increase of the quantity 'of 'clinker obtained in a given time-alslcompuredwith the time and quantity and characterjef fuel required to convert .raw cement materials into piecesor lumps as well'as the supply obtained, for subsequently by 'grinding or pulverizing bringin into the condition of cement, for use.
The nature and scopeof our inventionlwill bcmoreiully'understood from the following description taken in connection'with the`accompanyiIig4 drawings form` fire-brick, a bin for containingjthc finely divided dry raw materials and finely divided fuel, Vmeans for conducting `the mixture 'of thesaid materials and of the fuelf both in non-coherincnditions into the rotary reverheratory kiln, and v'with' an outlet for the clinkered Specifica-tion of Letters Patent. Application nea January 2,1901 serial No. 353,516.

cement material arranged in the wall at the .discharge `end of the said kiln, the same covering one nie-uns, which has been found practically efficient, for carrying into eff ect the mode of our said invention; and Fig. 2, is a detail view, illustiatingin elevation thewall und with an. inlet arranged therein for introducing a fuel or the heat of such iucl into the kiln, under the in-` uence of an air hlast or suita.l leie,adi1rg device. /l Referring to the drawings 3, is a rotary revtaheratory kiln, consisting of a metal shell lined with ro brick, which is held in a slightly hin-lined posi rn/'lrom the horizontal and terminatcsot the lower or c ucharge end lf2, in a wall 6. rPreferably in front of the stach and asc 4, and in alinement with the kil-n 3, is arranged a bin 7, which by means of a conveyor S, and feeding tube ll, passing partly througii'the basefl, and ste-cla 5, is connected directly withlthe kiln, In the hin 7, are placed the raw cement materials to be clinkered, in a dry condition and in a finely divided state, such. as
cement rock or an equivalent material, as clay, having.
the-same constituents in silica, lime and alumina, as the cement rock and limestone and also the finely divided fuel, consisting of coke or bituminous or anthracite coal, in a dry state, which latter is thoroughly mixed Witlxfthc raw materials prior to the introduction of both into the kiln 3. The mixture of raw cement 'materials and fuel in such finely dividediand non-coheling state by the conveycr 8, is conducted from the bin 7, into the feeding end l/l, of the rotary reverberatory kiln 3, in which the same is advanced by the rotations or movements of such kiln, during treatment therein. l Y l In the wall 6, is arranged an opening 9, through which a fuel such as pulverized coal or the heat of such fuel under the influence of an air blast or feeding device cany be introduced inthe kiln.
The fuel is introduced at the feedingfeiud 14, of the kiln 3, as well as at the discharge end l2l^tliereof- The fuel entering at the feeding end le., is :finely 'Y and mixed thoroughly with the finely piilverized cement materials. The fuel introduced at the discharge end 12, of the kiln 3, is termed the primary fuel and that mixed with the cement materials and admitted atl The kiln heingvcylindri'cal-in form-aud being continuously rotated, while in use, any given 'transverse section will he equally heated in its whole circumference. Whenv the Vkiln ishighfyfhcated say to a temperature of 2400" Fahrenheit, the charge of rawcement materials with which the secondary fuel is thoroughly mixed is fed in a continuous stream into the feeding end 14, of
nue'lxly mixed and feeding the same in their non -cohex'ing comlitionsinto a rotary kiln and feeding fuel into the kiln therewith to conjointly act by its consumption upon all separated non-colierlng particles of said materials to eleet thereby a quick-md thorough cliukering thereof.
G. The mode ofproducing ement clinker, which consists in introducing fuel at different points into a. rotary kiln, the fuel vfrom one point t0 re and maintain the kiln in a highly heated condition and the fuel from the other mired4 with the different yraw cemen materials in non-coliering eondilons to elet byits: comgustion the perfehtor com- J.
