Beit known that l, Bonnin H.. WHITE, a citizen of the United States residing at Cleveland, in the county oi Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and usel'ul improvement in Burner-Regulators for Steanelhwilers, ol' which the following is a lull, clear, and exact description, reierence being had to the accompanying drawings.
The ii'ivention relates to mechanism for controlling the tiow ol tuel to the burner by which the steam generator is heated.
The invention relates to apparatus in which fluid luel is used, and it is .spe.ci.. ,Y useful on steam car riages and steam boats.
The object is to provide niewis which will operate automatically to regulate the mnt of fuel burned and consequently the. amount oi' steam generated, or be operated atwill to entirely'shut off the which may fuel supply.
The invention consists in the construction and combination ol parts hereinafter described and pointed out delnitely in the claims. v

When the generator is in use the two or three or more lower coils whieh will be superheatwl while in said coils. The connections bet-Ween the sev eral (mils-is preferably by riser tubes F which pass over all ol' the. coils-#which conslruetion prevents water from Asettling by gravity into the lower coils. 'lhis tube lies between the lmvest eoil and the burner, the steam passing l'ronr next to the lowest' coil into the lowest coil must neressariiy pass through this tube ll. This tube contains a mechanical thermostat adapted to be operated flasher and consists which are arranged lhese coils are by the changing temperatures, and byits operation to control the movement of the valve which governs the' flow of the fluid to the burner. in use, and at such times the automatic' movements of the valve Il regulate the flow of the' fluid to the burner.
The valve H in the 'particular Aconstruction shown is raised from its scat by one arm n of a bell crank lever which engages with collar h, which is screwed ontothe valve,'-the other arm n of vthis bell lcrank lever being located so as to be engaged by a rod P which is a part of the thermostat.
.The specific, thermostat shown is composed of vtwo parallel piecesof metal G and P which expand unequally under the influence of steam. The piece G is a tube which may be madeof copper or other metal vo relatively great expansibility, and the end ofthis tube is fastened to the valve easing, while its other end which is closed is fastened to the .adjacent end of the rod P which is in said tube. This rod should lie-made lol' iron or some other meta-l which does not expand as much as the tube G. The free end o this rod l? enters the valve casing and is adapted to engage with the' arm n of the bell crank lever. .This thermostat is surrounded by the steam in the tube E, and is consequently in a position to bc lengthened or shortened by the changing temperature o Vthe steam.

Having described iny invention, I claim:
1. The combination of a steam .generator comprising a continuous coil, and aheating 'burner therefor; of a thermostat placed within the coil adjacent to the burner and 'consisting of an outer ltube of relatively high expansibillty, a head to-wllich yaid tube is secured at one end, a rod of relatively low expansibilitv within said tube, a casing secured to said head, a self closing valve-for controlhaving a stem slidable in said casing, an adjustable nut inthcfcasing and having one portion bearing against said nut ,and the other against said rod,. said tube, rod, bellA crank and nut being'disconnectL-.d at at l'east one point of such connection, substantially as desci'ibed.
