Be it known that 1, GEORGE C. LANDIs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Connellsville, in. the county of Fayette and State of Pennsylvania, have invented or discovered new and luseul Improvements in Coke-Drawers, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to coke drawers and its Objectis to provide a machine which may Withdraw the entire charge of a coke oven'at a single operation. Preferably, the machine 'will draw the coke out upon a platform forming a part of the machine.v 1 prefer to-inount the machine upon a track extending along a row of ovens,

so that the charge from any oven maybe accessible to the same.

Referring to the drawings accompanying this specification, Figure 1 is a longitudinal section oi a coke oven with my machine in side elevation,

On the drawings, 1 designates a Cokel oven having the base 2, thereof 3, the parallel sides 4, and the end openings 5, the latter being shown with the doors or filling removed.

7 is the usual trunnel hole.

My coke drawing machine is made in ,the form of a truck or carriage supported on the Wheels 9- which run on thetrack 8 so that the truck may be placed opposite any oven in the row.

10 is the platform or bed of the carriage, its upper surface being at the level of the floor'11 of the oven. The carriage supports the electric or other motor 12, gearing 13 drives the pinions 14, one at.` each side of th'e platfornr supported in short shafts-15 above the level ofthe platform but not extending across the same.' long enough to permit the bar 21 to reach to the most distant part o the colte in the oven without causing the racks 19 to be out of mesh with the pinions 14. The upper edges oi the sides 2O are guided by the grooved rollers 22 havinga yielding motion up and down the standards 23, which support these rollers as well as the pinions 14. The tops of these standards are tied together by the bar 24. The iront end of the carriage supports the two standards 25 tied together by the bar 26. Each standard 25 contains and guides a vertically movable. rack-bar 27 actuated b y the pinions 2S on the shaft 2 9 beneath the platform. Thershait 29 may be rotated by the handle 30 and prevented from turning backward by the pawl 31. The rack bars each carry two grooved Wheels 32 in which the opposite edges of the sides 2() are guided and heldin place.

The operationiis as follows: The end o the oven 1 nearest the carriage being opened, the latter is brought opposite the same with the drawing tool retracted to the left. The handle 30- is rotated to elevate the tool so that the bar 21 may cnt er the oven above the colle shown by the dotted line 33. The motor 12 is started in a direction to push the tool into the oven and during this movement of the tool, the handle 30 will be turn/ed so as to direct the bar 21 up over the coke as shown/in dottedlines in Fig. 1 and down at the `rear thereot, as shown in full line in the same figure. The motorisnow reversed, the bar 21 pulling the coke ont upon the platform. As the carriage is not so wide as the charge oi coke is long, a portion of the. charge will be pushed be- A` car may be placed so as to receive the projecting portion as it falls or breaks ofi'. 1t is not necessary to clearthe coke irrom the platform after each drawing operation, as the next charge drawn will engage it and torce it ofi therefrom, as will be readily understood.

I do not desire to be restricted to the precise construction shown asthe same may be varied greatly within the limits ot' my broadest claims.'
