STORE-CASE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 9, 1907.
Application filed November 2,1906- Serial No. 341,774.
To 'all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatl, VAN LUTHER SUMMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Collins, in the county of Covington and State of Mississippi, have invented new and useful Improvements in Store-Cases, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is a case or cabinet for holding meat, fruit, vegetables and the like, and has for its object to provide a sanitary device of the kind, an especial feature of which is that it has a means for excluding flies and other vermin from the meat and the like.
The invention is designed to provide a case which can be cheaply constructed but which will nevertheless serve the purpose of providing a case for the storage of large or small quantities of meats or other food products.
It is adapted for use in stores, and the contents of the case can be readily got at so that sales can be made of pieces or portions without delay or diiiicnlty.
drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspectiveview of the case. Figs. 2 and 3 are details in section of the floor of the case. Fig. 4 is a detail in section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a plan of the parts shown in Fig. 4.
The case consists of a rectangular box having a floor 6 mounted upon sills 7, and this floor inclines from each end toward the middle, to a small gutter 8 from which drainage is provided through a tube 9 at the back, The floor is preferably covered with coirugated sheet metal, and the gutter is set in a groove, as shown in Fig. 2, seat 10, so that it may be pulled out at the back and cleaned when desired.
The sides of the box have sheet metal panels 11 in the lower half, and screen panels 12 in the upper half,
\ and in the front/the screen panels are hinged to form :-doors 13 which open out and' down, so that meat and theiike can be placed within or removed from the box. The @0514 of the box serves for a counter, and a place for scales, and on top of the box at end is constructed what I will term a retail compartment 15 The invention is illustrated in the accompanying I portion.
comprising a frame of screen wire or the like and having at the front a door 16 which is hinged to open up and back. Each of these compartments has a movable bottom or shelf -17 upon which the meat or other food products may be placed, and when the door is lifted this shelf can be pulled out for the purpose of allowing meat to be sliced or cut or pther articles to be delivered. The shelf slides upon a roller 18 let into the top of the case near the front thereof, and it is guided and retained by rods 19 which are fixed at their ends tothe top of the case, at each side of the shelf, and sliding fixtures 20 are secured to the sides of the shelf and have eyes through which the rods extend. The shelf is thereby prevented from tilting when drawn out.
In use, the larger pieces of the meat or stock of products are kept within the lower or main portion of the case. Small parts from which retail sales are made are kept within the compartments 15 and consequently they are not exposed to infection by flies and the like, but can nevertheless be drawn out on the sliding shelves for the purpose of cutting off or removing a The device will be found especially useful for the storage of smoked and dried meats and the like, which do not have to be kept in a refrigerator, but which nevertheless should be kept out of reach of insects. Vegetables and fruits may also occupy the whole or part of the device, and'if desired it may be partitioned into several compartments for the storage of different kinds of food products.
I claim: A store case comprising a bottom. sides and top. the upper part of the sides being hinged to form doors, and the top extending over the whole of the case. and opennbie compartments fixed upon the top of the case at ench end thereof, forming a counter space therehetween, and shelves slidahle in and out, at the bottom of each compartment.
