VENEER-CLAMP;
To all whom it may concern: l
Be it known that I, JouN H, TsiLGE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Veneer-Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is t produce a simple yet eiieient means by which two 'veneers may be brought together edge to edge and connected.
The accompanying drawings illustrate my invention:
Figure 1 is a side elevation; Fig. 2 a plan; Fig. 3 a bottom view; Fig. 4 a vertical section showing aroll of prepared jointing tape conveniently mounted; Fig; 5 a sectional detail showing the means for supporting and controlling the adjustable member; Fig. 6 a similar detail of the non-adjustable member, and- Fig. 7 a perspective `View of' a convenient iron for quickly drying aprepared jointing tape;
'.side of its middle, is a clamping bahr'12'-providdat each end with a pin 13 which extends vdownthrough table 10. For convenience of adjustmentlllqjlrread` the upper end of each pin 13 andprovidesthe b'a'r112 with a threaded thimble'14th e arrangement being such 4that :pin 13 maybevertieally adj'ustedin lbar.
12.and,held in any desired adj'u'stm'entby a che'lr nut.
15. r Each pin 13 is pivotecl at its lowerend 'tqrie'ar'm ot 'hell-crank lever 16 pivoted on the lowe sident 'thdL table 10. The opposite arms of' lever 16 are connected by links 17 to opposite sid es of a rockinghead l18 pivoted on a pin, 19 onl the underside of table 10,
the arrangement being such that, by shifting head 18,
'the two levers 16 may be simultaneouslyfswung and the bar 12 raised from or lowered toward the table l0.
Passing through table adjacent each 'pin 13 isa similar pin 20, threaded at its upper end to receive a nut 21,v and at its upper endpivoted to one arm of a lever 22 like lever 1 6. The opposite arms oi' lever 22 are connected by links with a head 24 pivot-ed on pin 1 9, and the two heads 1 8 and 24 are provided with convenient handles 18 and 24 respectively. Threadl ed upon the upper end of each pin beneath nut 21 is a thimble 25.
Mounted on the two thimbles 25,` 25 isa clamping bar 26 similar to the bar 12 but provided on its lower face' with a rough material, such as sand-- paper 27 Bar 26 has a limited transverse play on each tliimblef 25 (the hole 26 \being a little larger than the stem of In the drawings 10 indicates a main Work table supl Specication of Letters Patent.

pendently shifting one of said/bars' relative to the other Patented J' illy 2, 1907.
the. thimble) and provided upon eachl thimble is a lever 30. The short arm of lever 30 is pivoted, at 31, to bar'26 while the long arms are extended toward 455 each other to near the middle of the machine.
1f prepa-red jointing tape is to be used, a'roll 40' of suchtape may be journaled at one end of the apparatus on a bracket 451.
In operation; the two levers 18" and 24 are thrown -60 apart so as tolift the bars 12 and 26 up away from tablo\,
10. Two strips of veneer, having been .previously prepared at their edges, are thus slipped beneath the clamps, as indicated -in dotted lines in Fig."2, the-ad'- jacent edges being brought approximately into en#v 65ft gagement. Levers 18 and 24 are then brought to' A- gether so as to clamp the veneers down upon thel table.- The operator then grasps vlevers 3() and, by
swinging these levers-"independently the bar 26 lmay be transversely shifted relative to bar 12 and, because 70 of its roughened under surface and the smoothz'suriace of "table 1f), the veneery beneath' this bar will be shifted relative to the other veneer until the two yedges oi the veneers are brought into Contact through` out their entire length. Thereupon' the edges are -securedtogether in any desired manner. For instance,
" thegprepared tape 40 is applied and quickly dried by aheated iron 50,701* in any desired manner. The
leverslS and.24 are then separated, the connectedl veneers withdrawn, and the operation repeated,
. I'claimilas my invention:
1. Inra veneer clamp, the comhination, \vith a support, of a pair of clamping bars thereon, means for raising ahd lowering said bars, and means for independently shifting, one of said bars relative to the other both transversely 3f and angular-ly.
' 2. In a veneer clamp, the combination, with a support, of a pair of clamping bars thereon, means foi-,independently raising and lowering said bars, and means for indetransversely nnd angular-ly. v
3. In a veneer clamp, the combination, with a support` ing table, of a pairof clamping bars thereon, a pair of pins carried by each of saidbars'and projecting downward through the table, means engaging one pair of pins for shifting the same simultaneously through the table inde# 'pendent eans engaging the other pair of pins for the samemdimulta'neously throughgthetable, and n1 i shifting one of said bars transversely on its pins.4
4. In a veneer clamp, the combination, with a sup ing table, of a pair of clamping bars thereon, n pair of pins carried by each of said bars and projecting downward. 'through the table, means engaging one pair 'of pins for shiftingr the same simultaneously through the table, inde` pendent means engaging the other pair of'pins forshifting 10 the same Vsimul'tflueously through the table, a puir'of le vers each pivoted on one of'said last mentioned] pinsand-v connected with the clamping bar carried thereon, whereby said bar may be shifted transversely-on its pins:
' 5; 1n.a' venerclainp', the combination, with o.. supportA vlng vt,a ble f a pair of clamping'bars-tllereon, u'pajr of plus carried `by ech of, said bars `and projeeting downward through the 4alble, Va -bell-'crank lever supportingerich 'of sld pins, v:1 pair'o'f links 'conneclted with the's'aid levers of one clamping bai', u ,frocking head connecting said links,
nd second-'pair of links connected t'o the leversof the. fothler-iclampingbavr, a second rocking head connecting said -to the other clamping har.
1n witness whereof. I, have hereunto sot my lmnd und seal at Indianapolis, Indiana, this sx'teenth day of February, A. D.`one thousand nine hundred and Seven.
