Description

No. 857,806. PATENTED JUNE 25, 1907. W. A. HOHENADEL & W. KLINE.
FURNACE FIRE POT.
APPLIOATION FILED JULY 12 1 WILLIAM A. I-IOHENADEL AND WALTER KLINE, or AKRON, OHIO.
FURNACE FIRE-POT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 25, 1907.
Application filed July 12, 1905. Serial No. 269,392.
To aZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that we, WILLIAM A. HOHEN- ADEL and WALTER KLINE, citizens of the,
United States, and residents of Akron, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Furnace Fire-Pots, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in fire pots for furnaces.
The object of this invention is toprovide a firepot with a main air tube or chamber encircling the outside of the firepot; vertical air tubes located at intervals around the firepot; small tubes connecting the main air tube or chamber with the vertical air tubes and apertures leading from said vertical tubes directly into the firepot. This construction and. arrangement allows the admission of cold air directly into the firepot, resulting in amore complete combustion anda greater degree of heat with the same amount of fuel, than has hitherto been accomplished in this art.
While the essential and characteristic features of the invention are susceptible of modification, still the preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which, the figure is a perspective view of the firepot embodying the present invention, parts being broken away.
Referring to the drawings more specifically, 1 is the base of the furnace, 2 is the firepot, and 3 is outside air draft pipe.
4 is the main air tube or chamber communicating with the pipe 3, and encircling the firepot 2.
5, 5 are vertical air tubes made integral with the firepot 2 and extending the entire height thereof.
6, 6 are openings or apertures leading from the tubes 5 through the wall of the firepot 2 into the fire space.
7 is a large aperture at the base of the ver tical tube for the admission of air into the firepot.
8-, 8 are short hollow tubes leading from the main tube or chamber 4 and communieating directly with the tubes 5.
9 is the groove into which the dome or top of the furnace is fitted.
10, 10 are the grate bars of the furnace, and 11 is a box through which the ashes are removed from the base 1.
After a fire is started in a furnace embodying my invention, the air passes through the tube or pipe 3 into the circular pipe 4 from which it passes, through the connection 8, into the vertical tubes 5 from which it passes into the fire chamber through the openings 6. The opening 7 near the bottom of the tubes 5 being larger permits a greater volume of air to enter at the base of the fire bed where it is most needed.
It will be seen from the drawing and from the above description that a perfect circulation and distribution of air in the fire-pot takes place by the use of this invention, thus insuring a more complete-combustion and a greater degree of heat with the same amount of fuel.
Claims.
1. The combination with the fire pot, of an annular air tube arranged within the furnace around the fire-pot in spaced relation thereto, approximately midway between the top and the bottom of the fire-pot, and vertical tubes arranged at various points about said fire-pot connected with the annular air tube, extending in opposite directions therefrom and constructed to supply'air from the air flue to the fire-pot at the top and at the bottom thereof.
2. The combination of the fire-pot, having a plurality of vertical series of openings, an annular air tube arranged within the furnace around the fire-pot in spaced relation thereto, approximately midway between the top and the bottom of the fire-pot, and vertical tubes integral with and arranged at various points. about said fire-pot connected with the annular air tube and constructed to supply air from the air flue to the fire-pot through the opening in the fire-pot. V
3. The combination with the fire-pot formed with integral vertical air tubes on its outer wall and with openings forming communication between the tubes and the interior of the fire-pot, of an annular air tube.
spaced from the fire-pot, and short tubes connecting the annular tube and the vertical tubes and acting to support the annular tube
