`The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom, it may concern Be it known that I, SAMUEL E. CLEVELAND, of the city of Buialo, in the county of Erie, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy-Hoops; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure I is a side elevation, with one-half the image removed.

Like letters of reference designate like parts in all the figures.' l Y My invention relatesV to that class of toy-hoops in which au image, arranged or' suspended within the hoop, has motion imparted to it, as the hoop revolves, by means of suitable mechanism connecting the latter therewith.

theends of which-are attached the stationary partsV E E, or body of the'image, which is made in duplicate and forms the bearings for the axis of th'e hoop which rotates between.
The parts D D' may, if preferred, be extended to the centre, so as to form the bearings themselves.
The axis may be a. stationary one, connecting the bearings E E with the hoop rotating thereon, or gudgeons may extend from the hub and revolve in, the said bearings. Y

To each side of the hub is attached, in any suitable manner, a number of cams, h l1., which may be economically formed from a single plate, as shown.

The operating of my improved hoop, which is designed as a toy for children, is as follows:
The hoop is rolled upon the ground in front of the child by the handle I), the cams h h, on each side of the hub, being so arranged as 'to alternately and succ'essively engage with the pin projecting from the adjacent leg, and thereby produce that alternate action of the legs imitative of the natural movement.
It is evident that any other character of image may be substituted for-theA one represented, and the parts thereof be actuated in the same manner.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
Operating the legsF F, or equivalent part-s, of any image by means of cams h h, and projections i, -substantially in the manner and for the purposespecified.
