NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE.

tles, and has for its object to provide a novel construction. of valve mechanism and parts cooperating therewith to permit the ready delivery of the fluid from the bottle and to prevent pouring or forcing liquid into the bottle no matter in what position the latter may be placed.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a view in sectional elevation through a bottle neck having my invention applied thereto; Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation of my improved device removed from the bottle neck; and Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the device.
Referring now to the drawing, 1 indicates a bottle neck which is provided toward its upper end with a shoulder 2.
3 indicates a tube which is provided with a tapered portion 4 affording a seat, and with a reduced cylindrical portion 5, the seat portion 4 and reduced portion 5 being adapted to fit within a cork 6 which in turn is fitted within a portion 7 of the bottle neck tapered to receive it. The portion of the bottle neck surrounding the tube 3 is enlarged, as shown, so as to provide a space S to permit the liquid to flow out of the bottle. Said tube is provided with an upper series of apertures 9 and a lower series of apertures 10.
11 indicates a valve which is adapted to fit snugly on the seat 4 and is provided with a cylindrical extension 12 fitting slidably within the reduced portion 5 of the tube 3, said cylindrical extension being provided with a series of apertures 13.
14 indicates a rubber band or sleeve which is applied to the extension 12 adjacent to the tapered portion 11 of the valve to cause a liquid-tight fit of said valve on the seat i.
15 indicates a cylindrical extension on the upper side of the valve 11 which is adapted normally to cover the lower series of openings 10.
The valve 11 is provided with a weight 16 preferably inclosed in the cylindrical portion 15 thereof and said valve is held to its seat by means of said weight and further through the medium of a coiled spring 17 whichis i11- troduced between the valve and a guard 18 inserted in the bottle neck and adapted to have its lower portion fit within the upper end of the sleeve 3. Mounted in the guard is a leaf-spring having ends 19 projecting outward beyond the guard and a U-shaped portion 20 which projects downward from the guard.
When the guard 18 is inserted in the bottle neck the projecting ends 19 are adapted to spring under the shoulder 2 and thus prevent the guard from being withdrawn from the bottle. The U-shaped portion 20 of the spring is adapted to ailord a stop to limit the outward movement of the valve 11 so as to prevent the cylindrical portion 15 from covering the upper series of holes 9. \Vhcn the bottle is turned below the horizontaf-the weight of the valve will be sufficient to overcome the power of the spring 17 and said valve will move from its seat, the liquid passing out through the apertures 13 of the valve, the apertures 10 of the sleeve, and through grooves 21. formed around the periphery of the guard 18, which grooves are shown in Fig. If the bottle is turned to the horizontal, or above the same, the power of the spring 17 is sufficient to at once cause the valve 11 to seat. Should it be attempted to force liquid into the bottle under pressure said liquid would enter the upper series of apertures 9 and, bearing upon the upper surface of the valve 11, would cause said valve to seat.
The tube 23, valve 11 and guard 18 can be made of glass, porcelain, or any kind of metal.
I claim:
1. A non-refillable bottle comprising, in combination with a bottle neck, a tube mounted therein having an upper and lower series of apertures and providing a valve seat, a valve mounted in said tube and adapted to normally cover the lower series of apertures, means for limiting the outward movement of said valve, and a guard secured in the said bottle neck above the valve.
2. A non-refillable bottle comprising, in combination with a bottle neck, a tube secured therein having an upper and lower series of apertures and affording a valve-seat, a
weighted valve mounted in said tube and adapted to normally close the lower series of apertures, a guard secured in said bottle neck above the valve, and a spring interposed between said guard and the valve, the weight of said valve being sufficient to overcome the power of the spring when the bottle is turned below the horizontal.
3. A non-refillable bottle comprising, in combination with a bottle neck, a tube mounted therein having an upper and lower series of apertures and affording a valveseat, a .valve mounted in said tube and adapted to normally close the lower series of apertures, a guard secured in the bottle neck above the valve, a spring interposed between said guard and valve and adapted normally to hold the latter to its seat, the weight of the valve being sufficient to overcome the power of the spring when the bottle is turned below the horizontal, and means carried by said. guard for limiting the outward movement of said valve.
4. A non-refillable bottle comprising, in combination with a bottle neck having an annular shoulder, a tube mounted in said bottle neck having an upper and a lower se ries of apertures and providing a valve-seat; a weighted valve mounted in said tube and adapted normally to close the lower series of apertures, a guard having a U-shaped spring mounted therein having projecting ends extending outward beyond the guard to project under said shoulder, the U-part of said spring projecting below the guard and serving as a stop to limit the outward movement of said valve, and a spring interposed between the guard and the valve and adapted normally to hold the latter to its seat, the weight of the valve being suflicient to overcome the power of said spring when the bottle is turned below the horizontal.
5. A non-refillable bottle comprising, in combination with a bottle neck having a shoulder, an apertured cork seated in said bottle neck, a tube fitted within said cork and having a valve-seat, and an upper and lower series of apertures, a weighted valve mounted in said tube and having a lower apertured cylindrical portion slidably fitting therein, and an upper extension adapted normally to cover the lower series of apertures in said tube, a guard carrying a spring having ends projecting beyond the guard and adapted to fit under said shoulder, said spring having a central portion projecting below the guard and serving as a stop to limit the outward movement of said valve, and a spring interposed between said guard and the valve adapted normally to hold the latter to its seat, the weight of said valve being suflicient to overcome the power of the spring when the bottle is turned below the horizontal. 1
