ATTORNEYS ANDREW LARSON, OF OTTAWA, KANSAS.
ERASERCLEANER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 11, 1907.
Application filed March 3,1906. Serial No. 304,076.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ANDREW LARSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ottawa, in the county of Franklin and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Eraser-Cleaners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates generally to eraser cleaners and more particularly to black board eraser cleaners, the object being to provide a machine by means of which a number of erasers will be beaten against each other successively thereby effecting the cleaning operation in a quick and easy manner.
The invention consists in the employment of a plurality of reciprocating arms provided with spring loops adapted to receive the erasers and beat them against a plurality of erasers secured in spring loops secured on the frame of the device.
The invention consists also in certain details of construction hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification:-'Figure 1 is a top plan view of the device. Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the device. F 3 is a longitudinal sectional view, the legs being broken away. Figs. 4 and 5 are detail perspective views of the shaft, arms, loop and springs.
Referring to the drawings A, indicates an oblong frame formed of side pieces A, and end pieces A mounted on legs B, connected together by rounds B. A notch A, is formed in the side pieces A, adjacent one end in which is secured a cross beam C. A cross beam D, is secured between the side pieces A, adjacent the notches A carrying a plurality of spaced wire loops E, secured thereon by a cross beam F. The ends of the loops are secured to the end A of the frame and are bent outwardly and inwardly at E, forming an enlarged portion, in which the erasers are inserted.
l prights G, are secured to the outside of the side pieces A, adjacent the notches A, in which is secured a shaft G, on which are mounted a pluralitvof arms Hyspaced apart by washers H, and provided with beveled rear ends H Loops I, similar to the loops E, are secured to the under side of the arms H, by staples. Recesses are formed in the arms H, adjacent their beveled ends 11', and in the cross beam 0, in which the ends of the coil springs J, are secured, having the tendency to throw the arms upwardly. Secured to the other side of the notches A, on the outside of the side pieces A, are uprights K, in which the reduced ends ofithe shaft L, are j ournaled.
A crank arm M, is secured to the shaft at one end by means of which the shaft is rotated. Lugs L, are spirally arranged on said shaft adapted to engage the top of the rear ends H of the arms successively, and compress the springs arranged under said arms, when the crank is turned.
The operation is as follows: Erasers are inserted in the enlarged portions of the loop and then forced outwardly when they are securely held by the spring action of the loops. The crank. is then turned and as the arms are engaged by the lugs, the upper erasers are raised and the springs compressed and the erasers are brought together by the action of the springs successively.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In an eraser cleaner, the combination with a frame provided with a plurality of loops, of a plurality of arms provided with loops pivotally mounted above said frame, and means for operating said arms successively, for the purpose described.
2. In an eraser cleaner, the combination with. a frame provided with a plurality of loops having enlarged portions, of a plurality of arms provided with similar loops pivotally mounted above said frame, and a shaft provided with spirally arranged lugs adapted to engage said arms, for the purpose described.
3. in an eraser cleaner, the combination with a frame provided with a plurality of wire loops, of a shaft mounted above said frame provided with a plurality of spring actuated arms carrying wire loops, and a shaft provided with spirally arranged lugs adapted to engage said arms, for the purpose described.
4. In an eraser cleaner, the combination with a frame mounted on legs of a cross bar arranged in said frame provided with a plurality of wire loops having their ends conneeted to the end of the frame, uprights se 1 ranged lugs adapted to engage the beveled cured to the sides of the frame carrying a ends of said arms for the purpose described. shaft, spaced arms mounted on said shaft provided With beveled ends springs arranged ANDRE?
