Specification of Letters Patent.

- Seventh street, Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Game Apparatus, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

My invention relates to games of chance and particularly to game a paratus therefor and as for its objects simp 'cityof construction and effectiveness of operation.

According tovmy invention I employ mechanical means whereby a circuit of the game playing medium can e controlled by one game operating motion and returned to normal after each play by a second motion.

For the purposes of my invention I employ s herical bodies constituting the laying meaand an inclined board provided with recesses or holes to catch and hold such bodies, such recesses or holes being preferably designed to be marked with a number or symbol indicating a count or reward. I also employ a magazine containing a predetermined number of laying bodies so arranged that but one sha l be released at a time and shall constitute a play or turn. releasing means whereby the game body shall be removed for lodgment withv a recess or hole and suitable means are provided whereby it shall be returned to the game body,

I will now describe the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings and will thereafter point out my invention in claims.

Figure 1 is a longitudinal centralsection of a devine embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same artially broken away. Fig. 3 is a longitu nal central sec` tion of the game body magazine. 'Fi 4 is a vertical section on the line 4-4 of ig. 1 showing a detail of the game body return, and Fig. 5 is a similar section showing the game body return in operative position also -Referring to the drawings the casing 1 of my device is in the form of a box lwith a re.- movable back 2. The u per 'coverof the box mits of viewing thegame board, and to this cover various of the game body magazine elements are attached. Within the box and inclined from the horizontal is a game board I also employ a 4 provided with recesses or holes 5 and bearing various elements of the game body magazine. This board is secured to the siding of the box by suitable cleats 6, 7, which act also as buffers, and at the lower end of the game board 4 and secured to the upright frontof the casing 1, is a iece of rubber or other 'elastic material 8 t at acts as a buffer. The game body magazine comprises a series of pieces of suitable material 9, depending from the upper cover of the box, and a series of pieces 10, projecting upward and -secured relatively to the game board 4 and adapted sponding to the recesses or holes 5 and this board operates on cleats or slides `16 one of which is shown in Fig. 1. The board is controlled by two springs such as 17, which are adapted to hold the board 14 in rearward position to close or form a false bottom to the recesses or holes 5. The board 14 is provided with an operating bar 18 connected to .the board by suitable thrust rods 35. Be-

low the false bottom 14 is another board or` partition 19 arranged at an angle thereto and provided .with converging sides 20, covered at their lower ends to form a return chute 21. This return chute is held in position by a partition 22 thatis attached to the game board and projects upward therefrom to form a dam behind the rear end of the lower portion of the magazine. The return` of the game body is eected by means of a cup 23, trunn ioned o n what is termed a lazy tongs movemeans of a bifurcated thrust yoke 25 having horizontal' projections 26 operating on upright guiding studs 27. The horizontal pro- -ment 24, the movement being operated by IOO jections 26 operate on pins 30 in' the lower l terminal arms of the lazy tongs. The upper part or shank 29 of .the thrust yoke 25 is adapted to, enter arecess 28 in the magazine conduit. The cup 23 which returns the game body is trunnioned in a V-sliaped yoke 36 pivotally connected to the upper terminal arms of lthe lazy tongs and sliding upon guide trunnioned so that it inclines by gravity 1n posltlon to receive and retain a game'body from the return chute 21, and it is provided with a stop pin 38 which normally engages the yoke 36 to hold lthe cup in this position. The cup also has laterally projecting pins 31, which are adapted to engage pins 32 projecting from the partition 22 so as to tip the cup to discharge the game body into the magazine. Y

It will be observed that the game body magazine is so constructed that the co-operation of its depending and upwardly projecting stops permits but one game bodyin a magazine chamber.

The opei ation of one turn or play of my device is as fbllo'wsz-The push button a operating the magazine conduit shown in F ig. 1 is depressed as shown in Fig. 3 and allows the game body 11 in the first magazine chamber to escape and run down the game board until it enters and is retained by one of the recesses or holes 5. The board is then in position for a second turn or play and with the depression of the ."button (L the thrust yoke A25 is caused to slide on its guides 27 and actuate the projecting pins 30 of the lazy tongs movement so as to operate the lazy tongs and force the cup 23 upward unt-il its pins 31 strike the stationary pins 32 thereby discharging the ame body into the'iirst chamber of the game ody magazine, or this dumping operation can be effected by the alternative construction wherein the cup strikes the cover ofthe casing and is thereby tipped so as to discharge its game body.

It is obvious that various modifications may be made Within the spirit and scope of my invention. Y

'Yhat I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,

1. Game apparatus comprising game bodies, a game board inclined to impel such game bodies by gravity from their initial position, such game board having a plurality of holes to arrest in one of a plurality of positions the movementof the game body, retaining means at the top of the inclined game board for holding the game body normally in its initial position, common releasing means for releasing the game body from any one of its arrest-ed positions, return mechanism for replacing the game body in its initial position, means for releasing the game body from lits initial position maintained by the retaining means, i and a common manually operative device for actuating the means for releasing the game body from its initial position and the return mechanism.

2. Game apparatus comprising a plurality of game bodies movable by gravity, an inclinedngame board upon which the game bodies are moved by gravity, a magazine for retaining game bodies in initial position at the top of the inclined game board, and com-X mon manually operatable mechanism for releasing the game bodies vfrom the magazine and for returning them to the magazine.

3. Game apparatus comprising movable game bodies, a magazine therefor, means for discharging the game bodies from such magazine, a game board having arresting means for the game bodies, collectin means, means for carrying the game bodies om the lowermost position upward to the magazine, such means including a lazy tongs mechanism operatedby the game body discharging means.

4. Game apparatus comprising a game body movable by gravity from an initial position to a lowermost position means for re` taining a plurality of game bodies in the initial position, means for releasing the game bodies with short intermissions therefrom,A means for conducting the game body from such initial position to-such lower-most posi-l tion through any one of various paths, and common manually operatable mechanism for returning the game body to its initial position and starting it from such initial position.

5. Game apparatus comprising movable game bodies, a game board having designated lodgment perforations,L a spring-controlled false bottom for said game `board having perforations corresponding-to the perforations in the game board a magazine located at the upperfportion of said game board, means within the magazine whereby only one game body is permitted to be released at a time, and commonly actuatable mechanism for operating the magazine to re- IOO lease a game body and for returning thegame body to the magazine.
