Description

UNITED STATES PA EnTfloFFICE.
FRANKLIN G. HOBART, or BELOIT, WISCONSIN, ASSIGNQR fro FAIRBANKS, MORSE & COMPANY, or onro eo, ILLINOIS, A CQRlOItATION OF ILLI- NOIS.
Be it known that I, FRANKLIN G. HoBAR'r,
, a citizen of the United States of America, re-
nular rim or flanIge siding at Beloit, in the county of Rock and State of.Wisconsin, ,have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sprayers, of which the following is a. specification, reference being had therein to the accompany-' in drawings. i
y invention relates to new and useful imrovements in spraye'rs, or spray nozzles, and 1s articularly ada ted for use in scrubbers for suction gas ro ucers. Q i The object o the invention isto" produce a sprayer which may be adjusted to give an evenly scattered spray whi e varying the'volume of water.
The novel construction and arrangement of parts by which I have accomplished this object will be more fully hereinafter described and set forth in the claims. In the drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical central section through the sprayer, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the adjustable closure.
A is a preferably tubular body member having one end open and at the other an ana seating around the edge in the top of the scrubber of the opening B and A is a preferablconical nozzle project-" ing into the opening and ham an axial outlet opening a. The interior 0 the body member forms a cylindrical chamber having a downwardly and inwardly tapering lower end terminating in the outlet a. The inlet C to the casing 1s tan ential and is arranged with a suitable glan C for connection with the water sup ly. D is a combined closure for the open end of the body and valve for the inlet. and consists in a circular top D and an annular projection E fittin the chamber in the body member. The ower edgeof this projection forms a s iral d and the ends of the spiral are connecte by a vertical ortion e.
When a full volume 0 water is desired, the
closure D is rotated to bring the portion 0 beside the inlet 0, and when a lesser volume is desired the closure is rotated tobrin the portion e partially across theinlet. 1 hus the volume of water is restricted without re.- stricting the pressure.
1 To facilitate the adjustment of the valve;

I
2. In a spra er,
ing a portion substantiall circular in crosssection, and provided with and outlet, of a rotatively adjustable cut-0 member within the chamber controlli the inlet, and means for operating the cut-o 3. In a sprayer, bod member formipgla cylindrical chamber having a tangential et and an axial outlet, of a member ,in said chamber having a spiral surface between said inlet and outlet and means for adjusting said member to variably restrict said inlet for the p ose described.
4, In a sprayer, the com ination with a body member having lformed therein a substantially circular c amber, and provided with a tangential inlet and an axial outlet, of
a cut-ofi-valve for the inlet mounted within the chambered body for rotary adjustment, and held a ainst' relative axial movement, and means or adjusting said valve.
5. In a sprayer, he comb' ation of member .formed with a substantially circular chamber, 0 en at one end, and provided with a tangentia inlet and an axial outlet, and a I combined closure and valve member mountloyed for securlng the sprayer to t a scrub er, but I s consists .of a cross bar or firmly to its seat on the scrubber. 6. In a sprayer, the combination of a body member formed witha substantially circular chamber, 0 en at one end and provided with a tangentia inlet and an open end carrying an annular flange, projecting into said chama spiral surface, substan- In'a sprayer, the combination of a body member having a circularchamber therein, and rovided with a tan ential inlet and an axial outlet, and a cut-0% member for variably restricting the inlet arranged within the chamber for. adjustment in a horizontal plane. '8. In a sprayer for gas producer scrubbers the combination with an apertured scrubber top, of a cylindrical casing erture having an axial out axial outlet, and a deal with an axia seated in said apet registering with -said aperture, and havinga tangential inlet, a closure for the top of said casing, studs on the scrubber top on opposite sides of said aperture, a yoke engagingsaid closure and a ertured to enga e said studs, and adjustable means for hol ing said yoke against said closure.
9. In a sprayer, the combination with a body member provided with a cylindrical chamber, havi one end substantially conhaving a tangential inlet, of a rotatable closure for the other end of said chamber held from longitudinal movement, and means car-.- ried by t e closure and operatin upon its rotation to "variably restrict the in ct.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two-witnesses.
