To all whom it iii/cry concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES W. FIELD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Freeport, in the county of Cumberland and State of Maine, have invented new and useful Improvements in Baling-Presses, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in baling presses especially designed for baling hay and other similar articles. Its object is to provide a press having great power combined with great rapidity of action.
In the drawings herewith accompanying and making part of this application, Figure 1 is an elevation, parts being broken away to show interior parts and Fig. 2 is a top plan view, parts being broken away.
Same letters of reference refer to like parts.
In said drawings A is a suitable frame, B the press box, C doors opening to the box from the top for filling the box and D doors at the sides through which the pressed bale is ejected. All these parts may be of any convenient construction. The operating parts are mounted in the frame and comprise areciprocating plunger or follower E which plunger is reciprocated by means of two thrust rods F and G pivotally attached to the plunger at points H and I spaced apart from each other. The other ends of these thrust rods are pivotally'attached to a sector lever J, one at either side thereof, at points K and L respectively. drum having one section M larger than the other section N is mounted in the frame. The trunnion O of the drum has a gear wheel P rigid thereon which meshes with a pinion R j ournaled in the frame and on the outer end of which is rigidly secured a power wheel S which is driven in any convenient manner from a source of power not shown. A cable T is secured to the sector lever in a groove U and passes thence over the end thereof and around the larger portion M of the drum, its end being secured thereto. A second cable V has one end secured in any convenient manner to the plunger or follower and thence passes to and around the smaller portion of the drum and is secured thereto.

A rotatable the plunger is drawn back into the position shown and the top doors are open. The material to be baled is introduced into the press box. Power is then applied to the power wheel and is transmitted through the pinion and gear wheel to the drum, the rotation of which causes cable T to wind around the drum pulling down the sector lever which by means of thrust rods forces the plunger forward until the material in the press box is suitably pressed. The thrust rods being pivoted to the sector at different points causes the plunger to maintain a constant vertical position. Reversal of the power causes the cable to wind upon the small portion of the drum thus withdrawing the plunger, releasing the pressed bale, which having been properly tied may then be ejected through the side doors.
Having thus described my invention and its useI claim 2- 1. The combination with a suitable frame and press box, of a reciprocating plunger, a sector lever, thrust rods pivotally attached, one end to. the plunger and the other to opposite sides of said sector and at points spaced apart, and means for turning said sector on its pivot.

The combination with a suitable frame and press box, of a reciprocating plunger, a rotary sector lever, thrust rods, pivotally attached one end to the plunger and the other end to the sector lever, a rotary drum comprising two sections of. varying sizes, a cable secured one end to said sector lever and the other adapted to wind upon the larger section of said drum, a second cable one end attached to the plunger and the other end adapted to wind upon the smaller section of said drum, and means for rotating said drum in both directions.

The combination with a suitable frame and press box, of a reciprocating plunger, a rotary sector secured to the frame, thrust rods, one end pivotally attached to the plunger and the other end pivotally attached to the sector lever, a rotary drum comprising two sections of varying sizes, a cable one end attached to the sector lever and adapted to wind upon the larger section of said drum and the other end attached to said lunger and adapted to wind upon the smal er section of said drum, a gear Wheel secured to subscribing Witnesses this eighth day of said drum, a pinion adapted to mesh with March, 1907.
