UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE GODFRIED LAUBE, OF SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF TO JOHN C. MILLER, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
UMBRELLA-STAND.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 7, 1907.
. Application led August 13,1906. Serial Na 330,357.
To @ZZ whom, t may concern:
Be it known that I, GODFRIED LAUBE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Santa Monica, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Umbrella-Stands, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in an Vumbrella stand designed for use upon a porch, veranda or similar place.
The object of this invention is to provide a Vformed therein, but it is obvious that the platform can be constructed of a plurality of slats suitably connected together, as by molding strips 3. The platform is preferably placed in front of a door 4, upon a porch 5 and directly in front of the door I provide the platform 1 with a mat or rug 6, said mat being of an ordinary form composed of bristles or fabric. The mat is detachably held upon the platform by molding strips 7 secured to said platform and surrounding the mat or ruff.
t the end of the mat or rug 6, upon the platform I secure a basin or pan 8, which can be made of galvanized iron or tin and painted or j apanned. Centrally of the basin or pan, I erect a stationary foot scraper 9 of an ornamental design, this scraper being used to remove mud and dirt from shoes, the dirt and mud being collected in the basin or pan 8 surrounding the scraper.
the standards are bent to form two loops or retainers 14, which are connected together, by a bridge 15, fromwhich a suitable plate 16 can be suspended bearing an advertisement or sign, such vas "Wipe your feet. The loops or retainers 14 are employed to support umbrellas in a substantially vertical position, whereby they may drain, if wet from rain. The platform 1 beneath each loop or retainer 14 is provided with a recess'or depression 17, to accommodate the tips of umbrellas.
To prevent the mat or rug 6 from becoming water-soaked, foul and eventually disintegrated, I provide the platform 1 beneath the mat or rug with openings 18 to allow water to pass through the mat or rug and the platform.
It is apparent from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawing, that my improved article is extremely useful in rainy weather, and protects the interior of a house from mud, dirtand Water, that would otherwise be carried in the house.
I/Vhat I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a device of the character described, a supporting platform, and a rack mounted thereon and formed from two strands of wire twisted together vto form two vertical standards, the wires forming the standards being separated at their lower ends and secured in the base, and at their upper ends each having a loop, and a bridge connecting the loop of on: standard to the loop of the other standar In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses:
GODFRIEI) LAUBE;
Witnesses HATTIE Rosn LAUBE, J, E. MILES.
