ERICK ASLESON, OF CI-IATFIELD, MINNESOTA. DEVICE FOR PREVENTING FLAX-STRAW FROM WINDING ABOUT BEATERS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May '7, 1907.
Application filed August 16,1906. Serial No. 330,900-
10 all whom, it may concern;
Be it known that I, ERICK AsLEsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chatfield, in the county of Fillmore and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Device for Preventing Flax-Straw from Winding About Beaters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to devices adapted to prevent flax straw from winding about the flax beaters usually employed in flax threshers. In such machines there has been more or less trouble caused by the straw winding upon the beater and, consequently, view of correcting this evil, I have produced a simple and effective device that may be easily and readily attached to the thresher and which consists of a minimum number of parts and, consequently, is without complication.
In the accompanying drawing :Figure 1 is a transverse sectional view of a portion of a thresher showing the beater and the de vice for preventing winding of the straw thereon. Fig. 2 is a detailed enlarged sectional view of the retaining means for the device for preventing winding of the straw upon the beater and a side elevation of the said device.
The beating roller 1 is mounted for rotation between the sides 2, 2 of the thresher. The said roller is usually smooth upon its exterior. The pipe 3 passes at its ends through perforations in the sides 2 and eX- tends parallel to the longitudinal axis of the beater 1. The caps 4 receive the ends of the said pipe 3 and are located upon the outer surfaces of the sides 2. The ends of the reducing its e'liiciency. With a pipe 3 are secured in the said caps 4 and are restrained from rotating therein after the parts are assembled. The pipe 3 is located in the vicinity of the said beater 1 and pre vents the straw from winding upon the said beater during the operation of threshing.
The ends of the pipe 3 are screw threaded in the caps 4 and consequently after the parts are assembled the said pipe 3 is held against rotation. However, should straw become wound upon the pipe 3 one of the caps 4 is unscrewed from the end of the said pipe and the pipe 3 is moved laterally through the perforations provided in the sides 2 and any straw that is Wound upon the said pipe will be pushed from the same by coming in contact with the inner surface of the side 2 toward which the pipe 3 is moving.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A device for preventing straw from windupon threshing beaters comprising a fiagelliformed member located in parallel relation with the longitudinal aXis of the beater and passing through perforations provided in the sides of the thresher and caps located upon the outer surfaces of the sides of the thresher and receiving the ends of said member and retaining the same against rotation.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afliXed my signature in the presence of two witnesses:
ERICK ASLESON.
