FIRE-EXTINGUISHER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 30, 1 907.
Application filed March 18,1905. Serial No. 250,853.
tents of a vessel, provided that a gas pressure is produced therein by the action of acid, are ejected through a nozzle. The fixed ejecting nozzle with inclined passage, which isprovided on the known fire extinguisher, has stood the test, for ordinary circumstances, where the spray of the discharged extinguishing liquid is to be directed from a' distance to the burning object. It is however some times desirable to direct the spray behind boards, wall coverings and beneath cupboards and beds to more or less concealed fires. This object is attained by the present improved arrangement of an ejecting pipe, which is adapted to be provided on the fire extinguisher and permits the nozzle to be turned and adjusted.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 shows a fire extinguisher of the known type in combination with the improved ejecting pipe and Fig. 2 is a single view of the latter on an enlarged scale, with section through the connecting screw arrangement with stufling box socket.
The socket b of the more or less long ejecting pipe 0, which has the nozzle (Z as end piece, is fastened or screwed instead of the ordinary nozzle, to the part a of the fire extinguishing apparatus (Fig. 1). The ejecting pipe 0 with nozzle d can be wholly turned on the socket b,which forms a kind of stuffing box around the neck 0 of the pipe for preventing the escape of liquid. A hand-wheel e is secured to the pipe 0 and the person using the apparatus can suitably turn or adjust (Fig. 1) the ejecting pipe and nozzle by means of the handwheel c.
The opening 0 of the nozzle d is inclined so as to permit the spray to be ejected laterally. When using the apparatus, the ejecting pipe 0 may, for instance, be inserted beneath a cupboard and the nozzle so adjusted by turning the hand-wheel c that the spray is ejected in the desired direction. In this manner, inaccessible fires behind boards, cupboards etc can be operated on by the fire extinguisher and the direction in which the spray is ejected can be controlled by means of the hand-wheel e.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be per formed, I declare that what I claim and wish to secure by Letters Patent is In an improved fire extinguisher, a long ejecting pipe having a screw threaded end, a cap internally screw threaded to fit said screw threaded end, said cap having a curved passage therein, which communicates with the pipe and has its outlet in the side of the cap, a handle near the other end of the pipe, a collar on said end, a socket secured to the extinguisher and adapted to receive the collar and a nut surrounding the end of the pipe above the collar and screwing into the socket to hold the pipe therein.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HANS MIKOREY.
