Specification of Letters Patent.

Be it known that I, DAVID BLOCK, a citizen of the United States, residing'at Philadelphia, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Ironing-Board, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates generally to ironing boards and more particularly to the improved means for clamping the said ironing board to the edge of the table or window sill, said means constituting a portion of the hinged connection between the legs and ironing board.
The object of my invention is to provide an exceedingly cheap, simple and efficient device which can be quickly and easily set up or operated for the purpose of attaching the board to the edge of the table or window sill, and one which will permit the board, legs, and brace to be folded compactly when not in use.
With these objects in View the invention consists in the details of construction hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification :Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the practical application of my invention. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same, and, Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of one of the hinge plates.
Referring to the drawings A, indicates the ironing board B, the legs, and C, the prop or brace hinged to the underside of the board, at C, and bearing upon the cross piece B, connecting the lower ends of the legs. The upper ends of the legs are pivotally connected to the board by means of hinge plates D, which are secured to the outer sides of the legs by means of screws D, and pivotally connected to the board by means of screws or bolts D which pass through an aperture D produced in an oblique ofi'set portion D", and at the juncture of the main and the offset portion is an integral upwardly extending gripping finger E, which finger is adapted to engage the lower side of the table 01' window sill, and in the drawings I have shown the gripping finger in engagement with the lower side of the window sill F, the end of the ironing board engaging the upper side of said sill, and the board is supported in a horizontal position by means of the prop or support C, which bears against the cross piece connected to the legs and tends to move them in a direction which will force the gripping fingers into the object to which it is to be clasped.
A lug D, is formed upon the extreme inner face of each offset portion D, of the castings, and these lugs are designed to bear upon the upper face of the ironing board, and prevent the gripping fingers E, being forced too deeply into the table or support to which it is adjusted, and further the lugs will reduce the strain upon the pivotal screws and there by prevent the board splitting should it be carelessly raised, when being adjusted. Each casting is also provided upon their inner faces with ribs D, which 'form seats into which the upper ends of the legs fit.
It will thus be seen that I provide an exceedingly simple and eflicient device by means of which the ironing board can be quickly and easily clamped to an object and supported in a horizontal position.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The combination with an ironing board having supporting legs, of plates provided with ribs upon one face to form seats for the said legs, of an off-set portion carried by the upper end of each of said plates, said off-set portions being pivotally secured to the sides of the ironing board, each of said portions being provided with an inwardly extending lug adapted to bear upon the upper face of the ironing board, and gripping fingers carried by the plates and adapted to engage an under surface of the object upon which the board is rested, the lugs limiting the gripping action of said fingers.
