Description

iNo. 852,335. PATENTBD APR. 30, 1907.
C. J. LJUNGGREN. HOSE SUPPORTER.
APPLICATION FILED NOV. 27, 1908.
nvantoz CARL JULIUS LJUNGGREN, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
HOSE-SUPPORTER.
No. e5`2,335.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 30, 1907.
Application led November 27, 1906. Serial No. 345,333.
10 (.l/ZZ whom it mrtz/ concern:
Be it known that I, CARL JULIUS LJUNG- GEEN, a subject of the King of Sweden, residing at Providence', in the countyof Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements r in HoseSupporters, of which the following is a specification. 5
My invention relates to improvements in l what may be termed hose supporters or garters. Itsobjects are to greatly simplify the construction, the fastening proper being in a single piece; to render it easy of application; to lessen cost of manufacture; and. to provide for efficiency in its holding action.
Said invention consists of certain structural features or instrumentalities substantially as hereinafter fully disclosed and specifically pointed out by the claims.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating the preferred embodiment of my invention- Figure 1 is a perspective view thereof. Fig. 2 is a like View of the same as applied to ahose or stocking for practical use. Fig. 3 is a detail side view of' the clasp-member or fastening proper. y
In the disclosure of-my invention, I stamp or form, from metal of plate-like character and sufficient stiffness or rigidity for practical purposes, in a single piece, a clasp-member 1. This latter is principally of the general outline disclosed, slightly tapering upward and terminated in a disk-like formation 2, at its upper end, and accordingly flaring slightly downward, and isslitted or bifurcated as at 3 from its lower end upward a suitable distance, thus providing it with two arms or branches 4, 5, standing a slight interval apart and having their outer edges each equipped with a series or number of teeth or corrugations 6 for greater effectiveness in using the same as will be seen later. The dislelike formation or upper end 2 is provided with opposed, oppositely inclined slots 7 g and through one of these slots is adjustably looped one end of a preferably elastic band or garter 8 for application to the leg, its other end being adjustably looped through and equipped with a hook or clip 9 adapted for engagement. with the other of said slots this being effected, ofl course, after encompassing the leg with said band or garter.
In applying the device for use the clasp proper 1 is suitably held in the right hand, as
judgmentwould suggest, to dispose it, the clasp, close to the inner or shin side of the leg, just leg with the thumb resting against said inner side of the leg. Next grasp said edge of the stocking or hose leg with the other hand and stretch it a little and place the arms or branches 4, 5 astride of said stretched edge, so that the arm or branch 5 will come between the stocking or hose leg and the le of the wearer, the arm 4, of course, stancfing upon the outside of the hose; then turn the hand yet gras ing the clasp or member 1, to the right unti the latter rests fiat upon the shin-bone. Nextpass the band or garter 8 around the calf of the leg and engage its hook or clip 9 with the required slot in the upper end of the clasp-member 1. The arms or branches, in being turned or reversed side for side, as has been effected by they above noted manipulation of the same, will, of course, have infolded the stocking or hose leg upon itself an'd upon said branches or arms, whose teeth will also result in more effectively gripping the hose, and accordingly have interlocked the latter'with said stocking-leg, thus effectively securing it until the garter may be removed, which may be effected by simply disengaging the'hook or clip 9 from its retaining slot when the clas may be readily detached from the hose without any difficulty whatever. 'f
I claim- 1. A device of the character described, embracing a clasp provided with engaging arms or branches requisitely spaced apart, to receive between them the object to be engaged and adapted for stressing the latter and means effective for the retention of said clasp in position under stress.
2. A device of the character. described, embracing a clasp provided with engaging arms or branches, separated a slight interval apart and having its head-end provided with opposed slots, and a band or garter proper having one end looped through one slot and its other end equipped with a hook or clip effective for engagement with the other slot.
3. A device of the character described, embracing a clasp member provided with engaging arms or branches separated a slight interval apart and equipped upon their outer lateral edges with teeth or corrugations, said above the top edge of the stocking clasp-member also having its head end proi In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature, vlded with opposed inclined slots and a band in presence -of two Witnesses.
or garter pro er having one end looped! ,Y 1 through one oi3 said slots and its other end i CARL JULIUS LJUB (IGREN Aadjustably looped through, and equipped, l Witnesses:
with a clip or hook effective for engagement ERIC F. TOLL, With the other of said s1ots.` EDWD. LJUNGGREN.
