LOADING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April SO, 1907.
Application filed October 30, 1906. Serial No. 341,234.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN .1 mi, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lucas, in the county of Lucas and State of Iowa, liave invented certain new and useful improvements in Loadin Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in loading or transferring de vices and it particularly relates to a device for transferring material from an automatic dumping apparatus to a wagon or spreader.
The invention aims primarily to provide a device in which the loading apparatus is automatically returned to its operative position after each successive operation thereof.
The invention aims as a further object to provide a mechanism which shall be simple in construction and practical and efficient in use.
The detailed construction will appear in the course of the following description in Which reference is had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, like numerals designating like parts throughout the several views, wherein,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a loading device constructed in accordance with my invention and in a position ready for use. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the position, of the various associated parts in their dumping or transferring operation. Fig. 3 is an end elevation thereof, Fig. 4 is a top plan view thereof, and Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of connections to be hereinafter specifically described.
Referring specifically to the accompanying drawings, the numeral 1 designates a rectangular frame, upon the end and side bars of which are provided yokes or staples 2 for the reception therethrough of stakes 3 by which the frame 1 is held stationary upon the ground. Arms 1 are pivoted as at 5 adjacent to the front ends of the side bars. The arms 4: are arranged in parallelism and at their rear ends jointly support a platform 6 formed by transverse boards or slats. To reinforce the platform 6 a longitudinal central brace bar 7 is provided which is secured to the rear end bar of the frame 1 and to a transverse connecting bar 8. Secured to the bars 4 forwardly of the platform 6 is a transverse dischar e shelf 9 which is inclined as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and is supported by connection with said platform and The platform 6 at with inclined braces 9.
its rear end has connection with a ropef 10 which is likewise secured to the said rear end cross bar. A weight 11 is stationarily suspended midway upon the rope l0 andgserves to restore the platform and associated. parts to initial position after each operation thereof. s
The means for raising the arms 4 and the platform carried thereby to discharge a load of material into a wagon comprises an A shaped frame constituted of converging arms 12, pivoted as at 13 to the sides of the frame 1 and united by transverse brace bars 14. The upper ends of the arms 12 are spaced away from one another and in such relation are connected by a pin 15 which serves as a pivot for a block 16. A block 17 is loosely secured to the front bar of the frame 1 and a drag rope 18 is passed. through the blocks 16 and 17, the rope 18 being drawn by a team of horses. The pin 15 carries a yoke 1.) through which is passed a V shaped connection 20 having its outturned ends journalcd in the bearings carried upon arms 4 as at 21.
The frame 1 is preferably provided adjacent its forward end with diagonal braces 22 and the platform 6 is provided with raised parallel members .3 which serve the dual function of braces and means for tripping a scraper to discharge its load upon said platform. f
In practical use the apparatus is positioned as shown in Fig. 1 and a scraper is moved over the platform 6 in either direction. the purpose of preventing the scraper from injuring the parts as it is driven over the platform, the earth is piled adjacent the frame 1 to form a bank and between said bank and said frame short length longitudinal guards 24 are interposed which are held to the ground by stakes '25 passed through staples 26. The braces 23 engage the scraper as it is drawn over the platform and cause the same to discharge its contents. The team above referred to is then driven forward and the A shape frame is rocked upon its pivotal connections 13 to the position. shown in Fig. 2. The connection 20 serves to raise the bars 1 and the platform 6 to a substantially vertical position at which time the material will be discharged from the inclined shelf 9 into a wagon or spreader or other conveyor. As soon as the load. has been discharged the team is hacked and the weight 1.1 serves to draw the platform 6 to its initial position, the

substantial U shape, parallel arms pivoted forwardly at each side thereof, a platform carried by said arms, means for raising and lowering said platform and guards 24 arranged in spaced parallel relation to the sides of said frame, said arms being received in one position in the spaces between said guards and the sides of said frame.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
