HANGER OF THE PENDULUM NATURE FOR STONE SAWS. APPLICATION FILED Ammo. 1905.

FRED A. DALEY, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
HANGER OF THE PENDULUIVI Specification of Letters Patent.
NATURE FOR STONE-SAWS.
Patented April 30, 1907.
Application filed April 20,1905. Serial No. 256,680.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Farm A. DALEY, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hangers of the Pendulum Nature, Imparting Variable Strokes and Movements to Saws Commonly Used in Stone- Yards, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in a hanger of the pendulum nature with the object of applying a series of movements to the saw frame such as movements in a straight line, an arc line, or in one of a series of lines between a straight line and an arc line, as may be desired.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is I a side elevation of one hanger in-which' the hanger arm e is shown at one end of its move ment. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the said hanger showing the hanger arm e in the same relative position as Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sectional detail. l Similar letters refer to similar parts in each figure. l In said drawing A indicates the main slide, which is secured to the main feed screw by means of a nut (not shown) and to the main casting by means of gibs (not shown).
6 indicates hanger arm, which is enlarged j at its upper end B and provided with slot m 1 said hanger arm 6 being secured at its upper end to auxiliary slide 0 by fulcrum L, pin and lock nut K. Pin a and oscillating link D support said hanger intermediate of its ends. The hanger arm 6 is provided with means for connecting to saw frame at lower end at Said fulcrum pin \V is provided at its back end with threads to receive adjust- I ing screw g, by means of which said fulcrum 1 L is adjusted up or down slots mm and is I secured at any point by lock nut K.
The oscillating link D is pivoted at one end to main slide A, secured by plate h and cap bolt I, the other end being pivoted to hanger arm e (intermediate of its ends) by pin a secured by lock nut j.
This invention particularly relates to an adjustable fulcrum capable of imparting various lines of motion to a hanger of the penj dulum nature commonly used to support the saw frame of a stone sawing machine, withl out the necessity of other attachments. With fulcrum L secured at the upper ends of slots m-a and hanger arm e slidably engagl ing with auxiliary slide 0 connected by pivot to main slide A through oscillating link D, one end of said link D oscillates in long are 1?, causing the said saw frame to reciprocate in the straight line B. WVith the said adjustable fulcrum L-secured at the lower ends of slots m-u and hanger arm 0 slidably engaging with auxiliary slide 0 connected by pivot to main slide A through oscillating link D, one end of said link D oscillates through a shorter distance in the are P causing said saw frame to reciprocate in arc line S. Securing the said fulcrum L in slots m u at intermed'ate points between the ends above mentioned, the said saw frame may be reciprocated in one of a series of regular or irregular lines between said lines R and S as may be desired.
It will thus be seen that this invention not only secures a straight or horizontal movement of the saw frame, but a series of movements, providing means for reciprocating the said saw frame in a straight line any desired length from one-third to the entire length of its movement, and, in the event that a straight line is desired less than full length, the said saw frame will rise at each end of its movement more or less, according to the fixed line in which the said saw frame reciprocatcs, thus providing means for the sand, chilled iron or crushed steel to enter beneath the saw blades. The means by which I accomplish this series of movements are exceedingly substz'mtial, located above the saws to prevent foreign substances from entering the bearings. All bearings are provided with liners and adjustments to take up wear, which liners and adjustments are not shown in the accompanying drawings.
Having thus explained the nature of my invention, and described a way of constructing and using, though without attempting to set forth all the modes of its use, it is declared that what is claimed is:
The herein described hanger of the pendulum nature, for supporting a stone saw frame or other reciprocating member, comprising a main slide provided with an auxiliary slide, an adjustable fulcrum sustained by a fulcrum pin slidably engaging said auxiliary slide, adjusting means engaging one end of said fulcrum pin, a lock nut on the other end, providing means by which the said adjustable fulcrum is rigidly secured to said auxiliary slide at any point of its range; a hanger arm slidably engaging at its upper end with said adjustable fulcrum and said auxiliary slide, provided with a connection at its lower end for attaching to said reciprocating member; an oscillating link one end being pivoted to said hanger arm (intermediate of its ends) and oscillating in an arc while its other end is pivoted to said main slide providing means by Which the said reciprocating member will reciprocate in a straight line, in the line of an arc, or in one of a series of lines, regular or l irregular, such as may be produced between the said straight line and said are line.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of 15 two subscribing witnesses, this 11th day of April 1905.
FRED A. DALEY.
