RAZOR-STROP.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all Hill/07W it mm/y calmer/1 Be it known that l, Gnonen Tuvox, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in R azor- Strops, of which the fello'wing is a specification.
The main object of this invention is to provide an improved razor strep of great strength, elasticity, resilience, and line strepping surface; and to provide for readily re newing the stropping surface at comparatively slight expense. These objects are accomplished by the device shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a face view of a razor strep constructed according to this invention, when stretched for use. Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same when in a relaxed condition. Fig. 3 is an edge view of the same when stretched. Fig. 4 is a detail showing how the plates *1 and yoke 5 are perforated to form teeth for engaging the silk band forming the stropping surface.
In the device shown, the outer strepping bands 1 are preferably made of silk, and are secured to the body part of thc strep only at theirends, so as to hang loose therefrom at their middle parts. The bands 2 are made of elastic rubber and are cemented to the inner band or strap 3 which is preferably made of felt or other soft material. The silk b ands 1 are attached to the body of the strep by means of the plates 1- and the yoke 5. The
plates 1- are perforated at 6, the metal being forced inwardly to form the teeth 1 which pass through the silk ribbons 1 and are embedded in the body of the strep formed of the felt 3 and the rubber bands 2. The yoke 5 has similar perforations 8 forming similar teeth which likewise engage the silk bands 1. The plates or clamping members f on opposite sides of the strep are held together by bolts 9 and nuts 10. The yoke 5 has its two ends or jaws firmly drawn toward eachother by means of the bolt 11 and nut 12. The upper end of the yoke is provided with a ring 13 passin through a perforation in said yoke and he d by a shoulder 14 to revolve in said yoke in the usual manner. The face of the silk bands 1 may be treated with any suitable stropping paste or filler, such, for example, as may be formed of a mixture of bees wax, resin, and oil.
The operation of the device is as follows: To use the strep, the ring 13 will be attached to a hook or other fixed object and the operator will stretch the strep by pulling the handle 15. When so stretched, the silk bands 1v will be drawn taut as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. This is permitted by the relatively greater elasticity of the felt band 3 and the rubber bands 2. The soft felt 3 has sufficient resiliency in the direction of its thickness or at right angles to its face, so that it brings the face of the silk band 1 snugly against, and in proper stropping cont act with the edge of the razor. When either of the silk bands 1 become worn out, they maybe readily replaced by other similar bands, by merely removing the bolts t), inserting the new silk bands, and replacing the belts and nuts. The other parts of the strep may thus be used during the life of many different silk bands, which may be replaced from time to time, at slight expense.
The device forms a much more effective strep than the lea thcr or canvas strops new in use.
What 1 claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A razor strep comprising a main band formed of relatively elastic material and having secured thereto at each end a band of greater normal length and less elasticity adapted to hang loosely between its ends when said main band is in its normal condition and adapted to be drawn taut between its ends when said main band is stretched.
2. A razor strep comprising a main band formed of relatively elastic material and hav ing secured thereto at each end, a band of less elasticity and adapted to hang loosely between its ends when said niain band is in its normal condition, and adapted to be drawn taut between its ends when said niain band is stretched.
3. A razor strep comprising a rubber band, having secured thereto at each end a band of woven material, of less elasticity than said. rubber band, and adapted to be drawn taut when said rubber band is stretched.
4. A razor strep comprising an inner band of relatively soft texture, a band secured thereto throughout its length and being rela tively harder and elastic, and having secured thereto at each end a woven band of less elasticity adapted to hang loosely between its ends when said main band is in its normal condition and adapted to be drawn taut between its ends when said main band is stretched.
5. A razor strop comprising a band of relatively soft resilient material having secured thereto a rubber face, and a woven band secured at each end upon said rubber face being of less elasticity and adapted to hang loosely between its ends when said main band is in its normal condition and adapted to be drawn taut between its ends when said main band is stretched.
6. A razor strop comprising a band formed of felt having secured thereto throughout its length a band formed of rubber and having secured thereto at each end a woven band of less elasticity adapted to hang loosely between its ends when said main band is in its normal condition and adapted to be drawn taut between its ends when said main band is stretched.
7. A razor strop comprising a main band is stretched, and removable clamping members having teeth adapted to pass through said woven band and to become embedded in the body of said main band and means 'for drawing said members together.
8. A razor strop comprising a main band formed of elastic material and having secured thereto a silk band of relatively less elasticity adapted to hang loosely between its ends when said main band is in its normal condition and adapted to be drawn taut between its ends when said main band is stretched.
9. A razor s'trop comprising a band formed of felt having secured thereto at each end a band formed of rubber and having secured thereto at each end a silk band of less elasticity adapted to hang loosely between its ends when said felt and rubber bands are in their normal condition and adapted to be drawn taut between its ends when said felt and rubber bands are stretched.
