Be it known that I, DAvin M. 'inAIsUn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mays, in the county of Bush and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Road-Yorking Machine, of which the following is a specification.
'This invention relates to road working machines and it relates more particularly to a tions of ST raping, spreading and grading the entire surface of aroad an be accomplished by passing over the road in only one direction, thereby produt ing a one way machine in distinotion to the ordinary two way machines by which the road is worked on one side by a "'machine passing in one direction and then the other side worked by the machine passing 1n the other direct on.
Another ob ect ol the invention is the provision of amachine which can be readily adapted for operating on old roads or in spreading, grading or leveling the material for new roads, and at the same time compacting the loose material so that the passing of the machine over the n: l p duces a smooth and finished surface in one operation. A still further object is the employment of a blade made of sections and H101} nted on the lcveler or other suitable part of the machine with mechanism for raising or lowering the blade and for adjusting the sections of the blade according to the character of the work to be done.
Another object is to provide a road working machine of the character referred to which is equipped with an operators seat arranged so as to permit the operator to convcnient-ly manipulate the operating 'l'l'lvtillttlh isms, in connection with a fore-carriage to which the machine is coupled and an additional forward seat provided for the driver.
'ith these ol'ijects in view, and others, as will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the invention comprises the various novel featuresof construction and arrangement of parts, which will be more fully described hereinafter and set forth with particularity in the claims appended hereto.
In the accompanying drawing, which illustrates certain of the embodiments of the in vention, Figure 1 is a front perspective view of the machine. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof. Referring to the drawing, and more particularly to Fig. 2, A designates the road working machine having front wheels B of ordinary construction and provided with the usual draft device C. The leveler 7, which is preferably a ponderous body made of any suitable material and is arranged with its length transverse travel of the machine, has its under surface suitably shaped to give to the road-bed the proper finish and contour, the weight and shape of 'the leveler b'eine such as to tightly compress the ateri l ofwhich the road is made. leveler by means of suitable fasteners, such as one'or more screw bolts 20'. The lower edge. 21 of the blade is sha )ed according to the requirements of the wori; to be done. ()n the ends of the blade 20 are arranged extensions 22 which are used in the operation of scraping and grading old roads, so as to put them in good condition. These terminal sections 22'of the blade are pivotally connected at 23 to the forwardly and outwardly bent extremities 24 of the blade 20. Thesections 22 diverge in a forward direction and the loose material scraped wardlv and rcarwardly, so that the blade 20 will distribute the loose material for it to be acted upon by the leveler, thereby giving the j roper crown or slope to the road. Each adjusting means comprises a bell crank lever 24 fulcrumed at its elbow on a bracket 25 arranged on each member 6, and attached to the outer end 'of the forwardly extending arm of the lever is a link 26 that is connected at its lower end with the blade extension 22m one side of the machine.
