HAIR-DRIER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented .April 23, 1907.
To itl/f '1l/tem, t Ntrty/ cm2/067%.-
Be it known that we, CHARLES Oris FALK- ENSTROM and UNO L. SUNDBLAD, citizens of the United States, residing at Branford, in
the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hair-Driers; and we do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-
Figure 1 a front view partially in section of a hair drier constructed in accordance with our invention. Fig. 2 a view partially in section of the Same.
Our invention relates to an improvement in hair driers and particularly for use by hair dressers or shampooers who visit the houses of their customers, the object being a simple arrangement of parts whereby an eil'ective drying apparatus is produced; and the invention consists in the construction hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claims.
ln carrying out our invention, we employ a box 2 of suitable size and dimensions pro# vided with a cover 3 adapted to close and lock the box, the cover having a handle il by which it may be conveniently carried. Transversely across the box is a partition 5 vforming a lower chamber 6 and upper chamber`7. ln this partition are holes 8 and 9 igor the purpose as will hereinafter appear. Within the lower chamber 6 are placed two dry battery cells 10 and 11. The positive pole 12 of the battery 11 is connected with the negative pole 18 of the battery 10 by a metal strap 141, while the positive pole 15 of the battery 10 is connected with a metal iinger 16 which extends upward and beneath the hole 8 in the partition. The negative pole 17 is connected with a iinger 18 which extends upward and beneath the hole 9 in the partition. ln one corner of the box a tubw lar socket 19 is supported and adapted at its upper end to receive the stem 20 of a plat form 21 on which is mounted an electric motor 22 of usual construction, this motor being connected with the batteries by wires 23 and 24 provided at their ends with plugs 25 and 26 adapted to enter the holes 8 and 9 in the partition and rest up on the 'fingers 16 and 18 so as to close a circuit through the batteries. Connected with the frame of the motor and supported by the platform 21 is a circular box 27 concentric with the shaft 28 or' the motor which shaft extends into the box 27. Within the box and iixed to the shaft therein is a series of fan blades 29. The outside of the box is closed by a cap 30 having a comparatively large central slot 31. Below the slot is an eye or loop 32 to receive a hook 33 formed on an alcohol lamp 34 the wick tube 35 of which stands somewhat below the slot 31. At one side near the top of the box is a mouth piece 36 to which a tube 37 of metal or other suitable material may be attached, this tube being of any desired length.
The plugs 25 and 26 being inserted into their respective holes, closes the circuit through the batteries and sets the motor into action. The lamp being lighted the heat from it will be drawn into the box 27 by the rotation of the fans, and heat and air drawn into the box will be discharged through the tube 37, and this being directed against the hair will rapidly dry it. Preferably a strip of asbestos 88 will be placed between the motor and the box so as to prevent the heat Vfrom the box injuring the motor. Vtlhen not in use the motor with the box attached is lifted out of the tube 19 and placed within the chamber 7, the lamp 341 being detached from the cap. The tube 19 is also removed and placed in the upper chamber so that all the parts are readily stored for transportation and quickly placed in condition for use.
7e claim 1. A hair drier comprising a box having a transverse partition, batteries below the partition, plugs passing through the partition and into electric connection with the-said batteries, a motor adapted to be supported by said box and electrically connected with said plugs, a box secured to the motor case, the shaft of the motor extending into said box, blades secured to said shaft, a cap closing the outside of said box and formed with a slot, a discharge opening at the top 'of the box, and a lamp adapted to be Secured to the cap below said slot, substantially as described.
2. The herein described hair drier' comprising a box having a transverse partition, electric batteries below said partition, a tu- TOO bular socket supported by seid box, a motor motor and batteries7 a box oonneoted with said inotoi', the shaft of the motor extending into the center of said box, fan blades Secured to saidv Shaft, a Cap elosing` said box and having it centrally arranged slot, loop or Socket below said slot, and a lmnp havingl e 'linger to enter said loop whereby the lmnp is suspended below tbe slot in the oep, and :t (.liseliarge opol'ling' at the top of' the box, Substantiztlly as desem' bed..
In testimony whereof, we lieve Signed tliie .speeilieation in the presence ol.t two Subsc/rib ing' witnesses.
