Be it known that I, DAVID-B. MARWICK, a
citizen of the United Stateiresiding at New Britain, in'the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and-useful Improvements in Machines for Bundling Scrap, of which the following is a specification. This inventionrelates to means for form- 1ng scrap into rolls or" balls, and hasfor its objectthe provision of a machine by which the accumulated scrap may be-readily with drawn from the floor of amill and coiled and consolidated into a compact portable ball or bundle,

The combination, with a longitudinally-tapered' mandrel, havinga slot for the reception of the .end of astrandof scrap, of a sectional yoke for supporting one end ofsaid mandrel; means for clamping the sections of the yoke together; means for normally locking the yoke against movement, and for releasing the same; and means whereby said yoke may be shifted to eject the bundle from the mandrel. f
17. The combination, with a' yoke composed of sections, one of which is movable with relation to the other, of means for locktoo ing and releasing the' movable section;
means for normally supporting the yoke against rotatlon, and for releasing the same;
a mandrel; and means whereby the friction;
of the bundle againstthe inner wall of the yoke will cause said yoke to move longitudinally and discharge said bundle.
18. The combination, with a mandrel, and with means for rotating said mandrel, of a yoke into which the mandrel passes; and

In a'scrapbundling machine, the'combination, with a rotary mandrel, of a yoke and means actuatedby the friction of the bundle against the inner Wall of the yoke for through which said mandrel passes, said yoke serving to limit the size of. the bundle, and to compact the constituents of the same;
shifting said yoke longitudinally of the mandrel. r
20. In a scrap-bundling machine, the com bination, with a rotary mandrel of angular shape in cross-section, said mandrel having a slot, of a yoke surrounding the mandrel; and means for shifting said yoke longitudinally of the mandrel.
21. The combination, with a longitudinally tapered mandrel having a slot, said mandrel being of angular shape in cross-section, of a yoke surrounding the mandrel;
means for normally, holding the yoke stationary, and for releasing the same; and,
means whereby said yoke may be shifted longitudinally of the mandrel.
22. In a scrap-bundling machine, the combination, with a rotary mandrel, of a bearing in which said mandrel is journaled; gearing including starting and'stopping mechanism for actuating the mandrel;'a yoke mounted upon the bearing; and means for locking and releasing said yoke.
