UNITED sTArns PATENT oFFIon PETER HEN RIOI-I, OF HOQUIAM, WASHINGTON, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-IIALF TO -GARRY H. LINDER, OF HOQUIAM, WASHINGTON.
FRUIT-BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 23, 1907.
Application filed December 29,1905. Serial No. 293,728.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, PETER HENRIGH, a citizen of the United States, residing at IIoquiam, in the county of Ohehalis and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fruit- Boxes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings, in which F igure 1 is a perspective view of a box embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a distended view of one of the box parts. Fig. 3 is a fragmentary cross-sectional view of a box constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 4 is a similar view of a modification thereof; and Figs. 5 and 6 are perspective views of a pair of locking elements, shown detached.
The object of my invention is to provide reliable and inexpensively constructed means for securing the two parts of a collapsible box in operative condition; and. it consists in the novel construction and ad aption of devices for accomplishing such ends, as will be hereinafter set forth.
In the said drawings, 10 and 11 represent the respective middle portions of two boxparts which are adapted to be laid one upon the other to form the double bottom of a box. Integral with each such bottom-layer are oppositely directed flaps 12 which are desirably formed with diverging side edges 13 and ventilating slots 14. These flaps are bent upward along transverse lines, indicated by broken lines 15 in Fig. 2, to form the walls of a box.
Provided along the outer edge of each such flap, or wall, is a strengthening or supporting strip 16 of metal, preferably, which is folded centrally throughout its length and secured to its respective said wall edge by riveting or other equivalent fasteners, as 17. Connected to the walls and desirably embraced beneath the said strips are locking devices 18 place Where they are to be filled with fruit or other produce and be then assembled with dlspatch by an ordinary person.
The box structure and connections are K strong and sufficiently rigid to answer the purposes for which intended.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A box of the class described having a clouble bottom portion and two oppositely disposed walls to each bottom portion, strengthening strips for the upper edges of said walls, each of said strengthening strips formed from a sheet of metal bent upon itself centrally throughout its length and placed on the upper edge of the box wall so as to span the same, and fastening devices separate from the strengthening strip for securing the walls together, said fastening devices being secured to the walls and to the strips by the rivets which fasten said strips to said walls said fastening device being secured between the side wall and the strengthening material.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
PETER HENRIOH.
