Definitions
- rollers are provided with lips or projecting ribs between which the strap can be gripped, so as to support the window in any position.
- the rollers are arranged to grip the strap between their projecting lips automatically on its release, while on pulling down the strap the lower roller is turned back slightly, allowing the strap to be drawn down freely and the win dow to be raised. On releasing the strap, however, the lower roller turns in a little and grips the strap immediately.
- the lip or rib may be roughened or serrated.
- the lower roller is provided with a finger-piece, on pressing which the roller is turned back slightly and releases the strap and window, which falls to the bottom, or until the fingerpiece is released, when the strap is at once gripped and the window held in the required position.
- the brackets b On the window-frame a are secured the brackets b, carrying the two rollers c and (Z, the roller or bar 0 being fixed in the brackets, while (1 can turn. Both rollers are provided with the toothed or serrated ribs 6, which project toward each other and are placed slightly toward the front or inner side of the window.
- the strap f supporting the window in the usual manner, passes between the two rollers, and on pulling the strap to raise the window the lower roller is slightly turned into the position shown in Fig. 3, allowing the strap to pass freely; but on releasing the strap the roller is turned back into the position shown in Fig. 2, and the strap is firmly gripped between the serrated ribs e, thus holding the window in any desired position.
- the lower roller 61 is turned by the finger-piece g, which on being pressed in, as shown in Fig. 3, releases the strap.
Description
PATENTED APR. 23, 1907.
T c. NICHOLSON. CARRIAGE WINDOW.
, APPL IOLTION FILBDJAILIB, 1906.
- CHARLES NICHOLSON, OF HATFIELD, NEAR DONOASTER, ENGLAND.
CARRIAGE-WINDOW.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 23, 190?.
Application filed January 23, 1906- Serial No. 297.516.
passes, and these rollers are provided with lips or projecting ribs between which the strap can be gripped, so as to support the window in any position. The rollers are arranged to grip the strap between their projecting lips automatically on its release, while on pulling down the strap the lower roller is turned back slightly, allowing the strap to be drawn down freely and the win dow to be raised. On releasing the strap, however, the lower roller turns in a little and grips the strap immediately. To provide a more effective grip, the lip or rib may be roughened or serrated.
To allow the window to be lowered, the lower roller is provided with a finger-piece, on pressing which the roller is turned back slightly and releases the strap and window, which falls to the bottom, or until the fingerpiece is released, whenthe strap is at once gripped and the window held in the required position.
In order that this invention may be more readily understood, reference is had to the accompanying sheet of drawings, in which-- Figure 1 is an elevation of a window provided with my improvements, and Figs. 2 and 3 are sections showing the windowstraps gripped and released.
On the window-frame a are secured the brackets b, carrying the two rollers c and (Z, the roller or bar 0 being fixed in the brackets, while (1 can turn. Both rollers are provided with the toothed or serrated ribs 6, which project toward each other and are placed slightly toward the front or inner side of the window. The strap f, supporting the window in the usual manner, passes between the two rollers, and on pulling the strap to raise the window the lower roller is slightly turned into the position shown in Fig. 3, allowing the strap to pass freely; but on releasing the strap the roller is turned back into the position shown in Fig. 2, and the strap is firmly gripped between the serrated ribs e, thus holding the window in any desired position.
To release the strap and allow the window to fall, the lower roller 61 is turned by the finger-piece g, which on being pressed in, as shown in Fig. 3, releases the strap.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is In means for securing the straps of railway-carriage and other windows, a fixed upper roller and a rotating lower roller, serrated ribs on both rollers between which the strap is gripped and a finger-piece on the lower roller turning it to release the strap, substantially as herein described.
In testimony whereof I affiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
