The present invention has reference generally to improvements in bag-frame fasteners for use with the hinged or pivoted frame-sections of satchels, chatelaine, and other bags; and this invention has for its principal object to provide a neat, strong, and serviceable bag-frame fastener which can be easily manipulated, and to provide a mechanism in which there are no tilting or tion and provided with means adapted to be pivotally-arranged parts which are likely to get out of order by being pressed back with too great force or with constant use, but which mechanism comprises ;a slidably-arranged holding or retaining plate or bolt arranged within the shell or casing of the fastener, which is secured upon one frame-secengaged by the hasp or hasps of a hasp-plate which is secured upon the other frame-section.
A further object of this invention is to pro vide, in connection with the slidably arranged holding or retaining plate of the bagframe fastener, hereinafter more particularly specified, a rotatablyarranged actuating knob or finger-piece, provided with apost and a stop or lug engaging member or ele ment, said knob and its post, with said stop or lug engaging member or element, being movably connected with the slidablyarranged holding or retaining plate, and the stop or lug engaging member or element of said post being adapted to be rotated into engagement with a stop, projection, or the like extending upwardly from a fixed shell or casing upon the one frame-section for retaining the two frame-sections of the bag-frame in their closed relation against accidental opening of the same.
A further object of this invention 1s to provide a novel means in the form of a springactuated bolt, a portion of which is in slidable engagement with the stop or lug engaging member or element of the post, which is provided'with said knob or fingenpiece and is arranged to positively retain said lug-engaging member or element in either of its r0- tated positions in or out of the holding engagement with the stop or lug of the previously-mentioned fixed shell, as will hereinafter more fully appear.
Other objects of this invention not at this a time more particularly mentioned will be 7 clearly understood from the following detailed description of the same.
With these various objects of my present invention in view the said invention consists, primarily, in the novel bag-frame fastener hereinafter set forth; and, furthermore, this invention consists in the various arrangements and combinations of devices and parts, as well as in the details of the construction of the same, all of which will be more fully described in the following specification and then finally embodied in the clauses of the claims, which are appended to and which form an essential part of this specification.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front face view of the bagframe fastener and hasp or catch plate embodying the principles of the present invention, portions only of the respective bagframe sections to which these parts are secured being shown; and Fig. 2 is a top or plan view of the various parts shown in said Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a bottom view of the bagframe fastener and the hasp or catch plate in its holding engagement with the retaining or holding plate of themain member of the fastener, the parts being shown in their detached relation from the frame-section; and Fig. 4 is a central longitudinal section of the fastener, said section being taken on line 4 4 in Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a horizontal section taken on line 5 5 in said Fig. 4 looking in the direction of the arrow 90 and showing a top or plan view of the fixed main shellor casing, which is provided with the stop or lug for looking or releasing thefinger-piece and its post and Fig. 6 is a similar section taken also on said line 5 5 in Fig. 4, but looking in the direction of the arrow y, said view illustrating the position of the stop or lug engaging member or element of the rotative finger-piece post when said element is in its retaining engagement with the stop or lug of said main shell or casing. Fig. 7 is a similar view of the same parts, illustrating, however, theposition of the stop or lug engaging member or element of the rotative finger-piece post when said element has been rotated into its disengaged relation with the stop or lug of said main shell or casing; and Fig. 8 is another similar view of the same parts, show ing the stop or lug engaging member or element in a position intermediate of its two positions indicated in said Figs. 6 and 7, showing the operative engagement of the said member or element with a spring-actuated retaining device or bolt employed for holding said stop or lug engaging member in its variously-rotated positions. Fig. 9 is a transverse section taken on line 9 9 in Fig. 2 looking in the direction of the arrow 2 in Fig. 2 of the drawings. Fig. 10 is a similar section taken on line 10 10 in Fig. 4 looking in the direction of the arrow u. Similar characters of reference are employed in all of the above-described views to indicate corresponding parts.
Referring now to the several figures of the drawings, the reference characters 1 and 2 indicate portions of the respective and usual bag-frame sections, to one of which, as 1, is secured my novel bag-frame fastener 3, and to the other frame-section 2 is attached the catch or holding device 4. This device consists, essentially, of a suitably-shaped hasp or catch plate 5, which is secured upon the side of the frame-section 2 by means of pins or rivets 6 or other suitable fastening means and may be provided with a post or stud 7, which carries a finger-piece 8, substantially as illustrated in Figs. 1, 2, 9, 12, and 15 of the drawings. Extending from the upper marginal edge or from any other suitable part of the said plate 5 at right angles are one or more hasp-lugs or posts 9, each post or lug being provided with a slotted holdingjaw 10.
The bag-frame fastener proper comprises a main shell or casing 11, formed at its ends with perforated ears 12 for the reception of pins or rivets 13, by means of which the shell or casing is secured upon the upper surface of the frame-section 1 but it will be understood, however, that other fastening means may be employed for securing the casing or shell 11 in its fixed position upon said framesection. This casing or shell is provided in its front face with suitably-disposed openings 14 for the reception of said hasp-lugs or posts 9, and in its upper face the said casing or shell is made with four elongated openings or slots 15. A pair of projections or tongues 16 and 17, one of which, as 16, forming a stop for the purposes hereinafter more fully set forth, are forced out of and project slightly above the upper surface of said casing or shell.v The projection or tongue 17 serves as a hook, as will presently appear.
Slidably arranged upon the upper surface of said casing or shell 11 is a second casing or shell 18, provided with a centrally-disposed hub-shaped or enlarged part 19, which is formed with an opening 20, and suitably secured within the chambered part of said casing or shell 18 is a securing member or guid ing element 21. This member or guiding element 21 is formed with an opening 22, which corres onds to the opening 20 in said casing or she I 18 and is provided at each edge with pairs of downwardly-extending lips or projections 23 and 24. A hook-shaped portion 26 is provided at one end of the element or member 21 between the lips or projections 23, and a second hook-shaped portion 27 is provided at the other end of the element ormember 21 between the lips or projections 24, all of which will be clearly seen from an inspection more particularly of Figs. 4 and 14 of the drawings. Each pair of said lips or projections 23 and 24 are made with ma'rgina lugs 28, each lug extending into and being capable of a reciprocatory motion in one of the elongated openings or slots 15 of the main fixed casing or shell 11, as shown in Figs. 3, 4, 5, 10, and 11 of the drawings, and each lug 28 being provided with a clamping-tongue 29. These tongues, as will be seen from an inspection of said Figs. 3, 10, and 11, enter slotted or cut-away portions 31 in the .marginal edges of a retaining or look plate 30, arranged within the chambered part of the main casing or shell 11, and are bent over the edges of said plate for slidably securing the same in position. This plate 30 is also provided with downwardlyextending guide members or projections 32 and 33, those along the one edge of the plate 30 projecting normally part way over the openings 14 in the front of the casing or shell 11, so as to be engaged by the slotted portions of the respective holding-jaws 10 of the hasp-lugs or posts 9, as will be clearly undefstood.
The parts just described are held in their normal initial positions (indicated in Figs. 1, 2, and 4 of the drawings) by a spring 34, having one of its looped ends, as 35, arranged over the hook-shaped portion 26 of the element or member 21 and having its opposite looped end 36 disposed over the hook or tongue 1.7 of the fixed casing or shell 11, .as clearly shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings.
As shown, the pair of lips or projections 24 are made with a second pair of lugs or ears 37, which are bent over at right angles and extend toward each other substantially in the manner illustrated. Slidahly arranged. between said pair of lips or projections 24 and beneath said. lugs or ears 37, forming a suitable guide, is a bolt or post-engaging member 38, the same being provided with a pointed or spear-shaped part 39 upon one end and with a reduced portion or finger 40 at its other end, a coiled spring 41 being arranged upon said finger 40, said spring having its opposite end in retaining engagement with the other hook-shaped portion 27 of said element or member 21 in the manner clearly illustrated in' said Fig. 4 of the drawings. Rotatively arranged in the registering holes or openings 20 and 22 of the shell or casing 18 and the member or element 21, respectively, is a post 42, having its upper end portion projecting above the upper face of the shell or casing 18 and provided with an ornamental knob or finger-piece 43 and said post being provided upon its lower end, beneath the said element or member 21, with a right-angled extension or member 44, Upon the lower edge the said extension or member 44 is provided near its one end with a teat or projec tion 45, adapted to be brought in retaining engagement with the stop 16 of the fixed shell or casing 11 in the manner and for the purposes to be presently more fully described.
From an inspection of Figs. 4, 6, 7, and 8 it will be seen that the spring 41 is sufficiently compressed between the reduced end portion of the bolt or post-engaging member 38 and. the hook-shaped. portion 27, so that its normal tendency is to always move in the direction toward the central vertical axis of the post 42, whereby its spear-shaped or pointed part 39 is at all times in slidable frictional retaining engagement with. either side or the end of the right-angled extension or member 44 of the rotatively-arranged post 42, as clearly shown. Thus when the bolt 38 has its point in engagement with the side 46 of the member 44 in the manner indicated in Fig. 6 of the drawings then the edge 47 is forced against the inner face 48 of the chambered shell or casing 18, as shown, and the parts are rigidly held or fixed in these posi tions. At the same time the teat or projection 45 stands directly in front of the stop or projection 16 of the fixed casingor shell 11, whereby all the parts of the fastener are held against longitudinal movement, as will be clearly evident. By turning the post 42 by means of its knob or finger-piece 43 from the position shown in said Fig. 6 to that indicated in Fig. 7 the extension or member 44 is moved against the pointed end of the bolt 38, as shown in. Fig. 8, until the parts are brought. into their relative positions illustrated in said Fig. 7. Said bolt 38 thus has its point in engagement with the other side 49 of the member 44, and the edge 51 of said member is forced against the other inner face 50 of the chambered shell or casing 18, in which position the parts are rigidly held. until again moved back to their former positions, when the post 38 is rotated by means of its knob or finger-piece. When the parts are in the positions shown in said Fig. 7 of the drawings,
then the teat or projection 45 of the member 44 has been rotated out of its previous holding engagement with the stop or projection 16 of the casing or shell 11, and the various parts are now capable of longitudinal movements for the proper manipulation of the 8 5 bag-frame fastener or look in the usual manner, and the catches of the catch or hasp plate can be readily forced into their holding engagement with the retaining portions of the retaining or look plate 30 when the two frame-sections are closed upon each other on may be disengaged for the separation of the two frame-sections when the upper shell or casing 18 is moved from left to right by the application of a pressure upon the end of said 5 shell or casing or upon the side of the fingerpiece or knob 43. When in these relations, the fastener can be freely manipulated and the two frame-sections opened andv closed at will. When, however, the post 42 has been turned so as'to bring the teat or projection 45 against the stop 16, the two frame-sections having been previously brought into their closed relation, then it will be seen that the parts are all maintained in their locked relation against movement, whereby the two frame-sections are prevented from becoming separated by accident or otherwise.
I claim 1. A bag-frame fastener comprising a main 1 1o casing provided with a receiving-opening for the reception of a hasp-lug, an upper casing slidably arranged upon said main casing, a post rotatably arranged in said. upper casing, and a bolt in said upper casing, said bolt hav- 1 15 ing an end portion in slidable frictional holding engagement with said post for retaining said post in its variously-rotated positions, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. A bag-frame fastener comprising a main casing provided. with a receiving-opening for the reception of a hasp-lug, an upper casing. slidably arranged. upon said main casing, a post rotatably arranged in said upper casing, I 25 a bolt slidably arranged in said upper casing, and a spring in engagement with said bolt for forcing an end portion of said bolt in slidable frictional holding engagement with said post for retaining said post in its variously-ro- I 0 tated positions, substantially as and for the purposes set forth. 7
3. A bag-frame fastener comprising a main casing provided with a receiving-opening for the reception of a hasp-lug, an upper casing slidably arranged upon said main casing, a post rotatably arranged in said upper casing, and a bolt in said upper casing, said bolt having an end portion'in slidable frictional holding engagement with said post for retaining said post in its variously-rotated positions, and a stop on said main casing with which a portion of said post is in retaining engagement when said post is in one of its rotated positions, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
4. Ab ag-frame fastener comprising a main casing provided with a receiving-opening for the reception of a hasp-lug, an upper casing slidably arranged upon said main casing, a post rotatably arranged in said upper casing, a bolt slidably arranged in said upper casing, and a spring in engagement with said bolt for forcing an end portion of said bolt in slidable frictional holding engagement with said post for retaining said post in its variously-ro tated positions, and a stop on said maincasing with which a portion of said post is in retaining engagement when said post is in one of its rotated positions, substantially as and for the purposesset forth.
5. A bag-frame fastener comprising a main casing provided with a receiving-opening for the reception of a hasp-lug, an upper casing slidably arranged upon said main casing, a post rotatably arranged in said' upper casing, a right-angled extension upon the lower end portion of said post, and a bolt in said upper casing, said bolt having a pointed end portion adapted to be brought in slidable frictional holding engagement with the opposite sides of said extension for retaining said post in its variously-rotated positions, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
6. A bag-frame fastener comprising a main casing provided with a receiving-opening for the reception of a hasp-lug, an upper casing slidably arranged upon said main casing, a post rotatably arranged in said upper casing, a right-angled extension upon the lower end portion of said post, a bolt slidably arranged in said upper casing, said bolt having a pointed end portion, and a spring in engagement with the opposite end portion of said bolt for forcing the pointed end portion of said bolt in slidable frictional holding engagement with the opposite sides of said extensionfor retaining said post in its variouslyrotated positions, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
7. A bag-frame fastener comprising a main casing provided with a receiving-opening for the reception of a hasplug, an upper casing slidably arranged upon said main casing, a post rotatably arranged in said upper casing,
a right-angled extension upon the lower end portion of said post, and a bolt in said upper casing, said bolt having a pointed end portion adapted to be brought in slidable frictional holding engagement with the opposite sides of said extension for retaining said post in its variously-rotated positions, a downwardly-extending teat upon the extension of said post, and a stop on said main casing with which said teat is in retaining engagement when said post is in one of its rotated positions, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
8. A bag-frame fastener comprising a main casing provided with a receiving-opening for the reception of a hasp-lug, an upper casing slidably arranged upon said main casing, a post rotatably arranged in said upper casing, a right-angled extension upon the lower end portion of said post, a bolt slidably arranged in said upper casing, said bolt having a pointed end portion, and a spring in engagement with the opposite end portion of said bolt for forcing the pointed end portion of said bolt in slidable frictional holding engagement with the opposite sides of said extension for retaining said post in its variouslyrotated positions, a downwardly-extending teat upon the extension of said post, and a stop on said main casing with which said teat is in retaining engagement when said post is in one of its rotated positions, substantially as and for the purposes set forth. 9. A bag-frame fastener comprising a main casing provided with a receiving-opening for the reception of a hasp-lug, an upper casing upon said main casing, a guiding element arranged within said upper casing, means on said guiding element for slidably connecting said element and upper casing with said main casing, a post rotatably arranged within said upper casing, and a bolt in said upper casing and said guiding element, said bolt having an end portion in slidable frictional holding engagement with said post for retaining said post in its variously-rotated positions, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
10, A bag-frame fastener comprising a main casing provided with a receiving-opening for the reception of a hasp-lug, an upper casing upon said main casing, a guiding element arranged within said upper casing, means on said guiding element for slidably connecting said element and upper casinging for the reception of a hasp-lug, an upper casing upon said main casing, a guiding element arranged within said upper easing, means on said guiding element for slidably connecting said element and upper casing with said main casing, a post rotatably arranged within said upper casing, and a bolt in with which a portion of said post is in retaining engagement when said post is in one of its rotated positions, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
12. A bag-frame fastener comprising a main casing provided with a receivingopen ingfor the reception of a hasp-lug, an upper casing upon said main casing, a guiding element arranged within said upper casing, means on said guidlng element for slldably connecting said element and upper casing with said main casing, a post rotatably arranged within said upper casing, a boltslid ably arranged in said upper casing and said guiding element, and aspring 1n engagement with said bolt for forcing an end portion of said bolt in slidable frictional holding engagement with said post for retaining said post in its variously-rotated positions, and a stop on said main casing with which a portion of said post is in retaining engagement when said post is in one of its rotated. positions, sub' stantially as and for the purposes set forth.
13. A bag-frame fastener comprising a main casing provided with a receiving-opening for the reception of a hasp-lug, an upper casing upon said main casing, a guiding element arranged within said upper casing, means on said guiding element for slidably connecting said element and upper casing with said main casing, a post rotatably arranged within said upper casing, a right-angled extension upon the lower end portion of said post, and a bolt in said upper casing and said guiding element, said bolt having a pointed end portion adapted to be brought in slidable frictional holding engagement with the opposite sides of said extension for retaining said post in its variously-rotated positions, gubskltantially as and for the purposes set ort 14. 15. A bag-frame fastener comprising a main casing provided with a receiving-opening for the reception of a hasplug, an upper casing upon said main casing, a guiding element arranged within said upper casing, means on said guiding element for slidably connecting said element and upper casing with said main casing, a post rotatably arranged within said upper casing, a right-angled extension upon the lower end portion of said post, and a bolt in said upper casing and said guiding element, said bolt having a pointed end portion adapted to be brought in slidable frictional holding engagement with. the opposite sides of said extension for retaining said post in its variously-rotated positions, a downwardly-extending teat upon the extension of said post, and a stop on said main casing with which said teat is in retainingengagement when said post is in one of its rotated positions, substantially as and for the purposes set forth. 16. A bag-frame fastener comprising a main casing provided with a receiving-opening for the reception of a hasp-lug, an upper casing upon said main casing, a guiding element arranged within said upper casing, means on said guiding element for slidably connecting said element and upper casing with said main casing, a post rotatably arranged within said upper casing, a right-angled extension upon the lower end portion of said post, a bolt slidably arranged in said upper casing and said guiding element, said bolt having a pointed end portion, and a spring in engagement with the opposite end portion of said bolt for forcing the pointed end portion of said bolt in slidable frictional holding engagement with the opposite sides of said extension for retaining said post in its variously-rotated positions, a downwardly-extending teat upon the extension of said post, and a stop on said main casing with which said teat is in retaining engagement when said post is inone of its rotated positions, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.

A bag-frame fastener comprising a main casing provided with a receiving-opening for the reception of a h asp-lug, an upper casing upon said main easing, a guiding element arranged within said upper casing, means on said guiding element for slidably connecting said element and upper casing with said main casing, a hook-shaped portion .at each end of said guiding element, a spring connected with one ofsaid hook-shaped portions and with a part of said main casing, a post arranged within said upper casing and said guiding element, a bolt slidably arranged in said upper casing and said guiding element, and a spring connected with said other hookshaped portion and with said bolt for forcing an end portion of said bolt in slidable frictional holding engagement with said post for retaining said post in its variously-rotated positions, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.

A bag-frame fastener comprising a main casing provided with a receiving-opening for the reception of a hasp-lug, an upper casing upon said main casing, a guiding element arranged within said upper casing, means on said guiding element for slidably connecting said element and upper casing with said main casing, a hook-shaped portion at each end of said guiding element, a spring connected with one of said hook-shaped portions and with a part of said main casing, a post arranged within said upper casing and said guiding element, a bolt slidably arranged in said upper casing and said guiding element, and a spring connected with said other hook-shaped portion and with said bolt for forcing an end portion of said bolt in slidable frictional holding engagement with said post for retaining said post in its variously-rotated positions, and a stop on said main casing with which a portion of said post is in retaining engagement when said post is in one of its rotated positions, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
19L A bag-frame fastener comprising a main casing provided with a receiving-opening for the reception of a hasp-lug, an upper casing upon said main casing, a guiding element arranged within said upper casing, means on said guiding element for slidably connecting said element and upper casing with said main casing, a hook-shaped portion at each end of said guiding element, a spring connected with one of said hook-shaped portions and with a part of said main casing, a post arranged within said upper casing and said guiding element, a right-angled extension upon the lower end portion of said post, a bolt slidably arranged in said upper casing and said guiding element, said bolt having a pointed end portion, and a spring connected with said other hook-shaped portion and with the opposite end portion of said bolt for forcing the pointed end portion of said bolt in slidable frictional holding engagement with the opposite sides of said extension for retaining said post in its variously-rotated positions, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
20. A bag-frame fastener comprising a main casing provided with a receiving-opening for the reception of a hasp-lug, an upper casing upon said main casing, a guiding element arranged within said upper casing,
means on said guiding element for slidably 'with said other hook-shaped portion and with the opposite end portion of said bolt for forcing the pointed end portion of said bolt in slidable frictional holding engagement with the opposite sides of said extension for retaining said post in its variously-rotated positions, a downwardly-extending teat upon the extension of said post, and a stop on said main casing with which said teat is in retaining engagement when said post is in one of its rotated positions, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
21. A bag-frame fastener comprising a main casing provided with a receiving-opening for the reception of a hasp-lug, said casing being provided in its upper face with elongated openings, an upper casing upon said main casing, a guiding element arranged within said upper casing, downwardly-extending lugs on said guiding element, said lugs being movably arranged in said elongated openings of the main casing and extending through said openings, a lock-plate movably arranged within the chambered part of said main casing, to which the lugs of said guiding element are secured, a post rotatably arranged within said upper casing, a
right-angled extension upon the lower end portion of said post, and a bolt in said upper casing and said guiding element, said bolt having a pointed end portion adapted to be brought in, slidable frictional holding engagement with the opposite sides of said exten sion for retaining said post in its variouslyrotated positions, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
22. A bag-frame fastener comprising a main casing provided with a receiving-opening for the reception of a hasp-lug, said casing being provided in its upper face with elongated openings, an upper casing'upon said main casing, a guiding element arranged within said upper casing, downwardly-extending lugs on said guiding element, said lugs being movably arranged in said elongated openings of the main casing and extending through said openings, a lockplate movably arranged within the chambered part of said main casing, to which the lugs of said guiding element are secured, a post rotatably arranged within said upper casing, a right-angled extension upon the lower end portion of said post, a bolt slidably arranged in said upper casing and said guiding element, said bolt having a pointed end portion, and a spring in engagement with the opposite end portion of said bolt for forcing the pointed end portion of said bolt in slidable frictional holding engagement with the opposite sides of said extension. for retaining said post in its variously-rotated pogated openings of the main casing and extending through said openings, a lock-plate movably arranged within the chambered part of said main casing, to which the lugs of said guiding element are secured, a post rotatably arranged within said upper casing a right-angled extension upon the lower end portion of said post, and a bolt in said upper casing and said guiding element, said bolt having a pointed end portion adapted to be brought in slidable frictional holding engagement with the opposite sides of said extension for retaining said post in its variously-rotitted positions, a downwardly-ex tending teat upon the extension of said post, and a stop on said main casing with which said teat is in retaining engagement when said post is in one of its rotated positions, substantially as and. for the purposes set forth.

A bag-frame fastener comprising a main easing provided with a receiving-opening for the reception of a hasp-lug, saidcasing being provided in its upper face with elongated openings, an upper casing upon said main casing, a guiding element arranged within said upper casing, downwardly-extending lugs on said guiding element, said lugs being movably arranged in said elongated openings of the main casing and extending through said openings, a lock plate 'movably arranged within the chambered part of said main casing, to which the lugs of said guiding element are secured, a post rotatably arranged within said upper casing, a right-angled extension upon the lower end portion of said post, a bolt slidably arranged in said upper casing and said guiding element, said bolt having a pointed. endportion, and a spring in engagement with the opposite end portion of said bolt for forcing the pointed end portion of said bolt in slidable frictional holding engagement with the opposite sides of said extension for retaining said post in its variously rotated positions, a downwardlyextending teat upon the extension of said post, and a stop on said main easing with.
which said teat is in retaining engagement when said post is in one of its rotated positions, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.

A bag-frame fastener comprising a main casing provided with a receiving-opening for the reception of a haspdug, said casing being provided in its upper face with elongated openings, an upper casing upon said main casing, a guiding element arranged within said upper casing, downwardly-extending logs on said guiding element, said lugs being movably arranged in said elongated openings of the main casing and extending through said openings, a lock-plate 'movably arranged within the chambered part of said main casing, to which. the lugs of said guiding element are secured, a hookshaped portion at each end of said guiding element, a spring connected with one of said hook-shaped portions and with a part of said main casing, a bolt slidably arranged in said upper casing and said guiding element, a post rotatably arranged in said upper casing and said guiding element, a right-angled extension upon the lower end portion of said posts, and a spring connected with said other hookshaped portion and with said bolt for forcing an end portion of said bolt in slidable frictional holding engagement with the opposite sides of said extension for retaining said post in its variously-rotated positions, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.

A bag-frame fastener comprising a main casing provided with a receiving-opening for the reception of a hasp-lug, said casing being provided in its upper face with elongated openings, an upper casing upon said main casing, a guiding element arranged within said upper casing, downwardly-e20 tending lugs on said guiding element, said lugs being movahly arranged in said elongated openings of the main casing and extending through said openings, a lock-plate movably arranged Within the chambered part of said main casing, to which the lugs of 'said guiding element are secured, a hook shaped portion at each end of said guiding element, a spring connected with one of said hookshaped portions and with a part of said main casing, a bolt slidably arranged in said. upper casing and. said guiding element, a post rotatably arranged in said upper casing and 'said guiding element, a right-angled extension upon the lower end portion of said post, and a spring connected with said other hookshaped portion and with said bolt for forcing an end portion of said bolt in slidable frictional holding engagement with the opposite sides of said extension for retaining said post in its variously-rotated positions, a downwardly-extending teat upon the extension of said post, and a stop on said main casing with which said teat is in retaining engage- V gated openings of the main casing and extending through said openings, a lock-plate movably arranged within the chambered part of said main casing, to which the lugs of said guiding element are secured, a hookshaped portion at each end of said guiding element, a spring connected with one of said hook-shaped portions and with a part of said main casing, a bolt slidably arranged in said I upper casing and said guiding element, a post rotatably arranged in said upper casing and said guiding element, a right-angled extension upon the lower end portion of said post, said bolt having a pointed end portion, and a spring connected with said other hookshaped portion and with the opposite end portion of said bolt for forcing the pointed end of said bolt in slidable frictional holding engagement with the opposite sides of said extension for retaining said post in its vari ously-rotated positions, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.

A bag-frame fastener comprising a main casing provided with a receiving-opening for the reception of a hasp-lug, said casing being provided in its upper face with elongated openings, an upper casing upon said main casing, a guiding element arranged within said upper casing, downwardly-extending lugs on said guiding element, said lugs being movably arranged in said elongated openings of the main casing and ,extending through said springs, a lockplate movably arranged within the chambered part of said main casing, to which the lugs of said guiding element are secured, a hookshaped portion at each end of said guiding element, a spring connected with one of said hook-shaped portions and with a part of said main casing, a bolt slidably arranged in said upper casing and said guiding element, a post rotatably arranged in said upper casmg and said guiding element, a right angled extension upon the lower end portion of said post, said bolt having a pointed end portion, anda spring connected with said other hook-shaped portion and with the opposite end portion of said bolt for forcing the pointed end of said bolt in slidable frictional holding engagement with the opposite sides of said extension for retaining said post in its variously rotated positions, a downwardlyextending teat upon the extension-of said post, and a stop on said main casing with which said teat is in retaining engagement when said post is in one of its rotated positions, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.

I11 a bag-frame fastener, the combination, with a chambered main casing provided with hasp-lug-receiving openings in its side and a lock-plate slidably arranged within said main casing, of a second chambered casing slidably arranged upon said main casing, said second casing being provided with mechanism for actuating said lockplate, a rotatable post, a right-angled extension upon said post, said post being adapted to produce a sliding movement of said mechanism and indirectly of said lockplate, and a stop with which the extension of said post is adapted to be brought in engagement for retaining the movable parts of the fastener in their immovable positions, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
30. In a bag-frame fastener, the combination, with a chambered main casing provided with hasp-lug-receiving openings in its side and a lock-plate slidably arranged within said main casing, of a second chambered casing slidably arranged upon said main casing, said second casing being provided with mechanism for actuating said lockplate, a rotatable post, a right-angled eX- tension upon said post, said post being adapted to produce a sliding movement of said mechanism and indirectly of said lockplate, and a stop with which the extension of said post is adapted to be brought in engagement for retaining the movable parts of the fastener in their immovable positions, and a spring within said second casing, arranged, when the mechanism has been moved longitudinally within said casing, for returning said mechanism to its normal initial position, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
