Description

s. HOOD.
DAMPER REGULATOR. APPLICATION FILED FEB. 10, 1906 I iNVENTOR aWJKmuh TENS col. wnsnmamn, n c.
' PATENTED APR. 16, 1907.
CYRUS S. HOOD, OF CORNING, NEW YORK.
DAMPER-REGULATOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 16, 1907.
Application filed February 10,1906. Serial No 300,376.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CYRUs S. Hoop, a citizen of the United States, residing at Corning, in the county of Steuben and State of New York, have inventedcertain new and useful Improvements in Damper Regulators, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in damper-regulators which readily at the furnace as at the damper-board located upon a floor above; and the object of my invention is to provide a simple and effective pulley-frame and sheaves with a balanced indicator-rod and connections Whereby a. damper may be opened or closed and adjusted from above or-below and its position indicated at all times by the position of the adjusting-rod at the indicator-board or other device on the floor above.
I attain my object by an adjustable pulleyframe carrying double sheaves and a balanced indicatorrod arranged and operated substantially in the manner illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a side elevation of my improved regulator and the manner of attaching it to the floor-joists, and Fig. 2 a plan view of the attaching-block with the pulley-frame and regulator-rod shown in horizontal section on the line of the fasteningbolt.
Like letters of reference indicate like parts in the two views.
The pulley-frame,which supports the guidesheaves and operating-rod, consists of a light metal plate bent into cylindrical form at B, with the ends bent outward and parallel at A. Between these parallel sides or cheeks are j ournaled the sheaves C and D. The pulleyframe is supported upon a block E, adapted to be attached to the under side of the floorjoists or to other support. This block is provided at suitable points with one or more curved notches to receive the cylindrical portion B of the pulley-frame and hold it in vertical position with a strong bearing. A bolt F is passed through a horizontal slot G in cylinder B and through the block E, the head of the bolt engaging the inside of the framecylinder and the threaded end of the bolt passing out through the other side of the block, where it is nut.
Passing vertically through the cylindrical portion of the pulley-frame is the rod H, which extends up through a hole in the floor may be operated as l intermediate positions.
) the bottom of the rod H l I l provided with a tightening- I above and is guided at the top by a suitable bracket N, attached to an adjacent wall. At the top the rod is provided with an indicatorbutton which will be suitably lettered where l more than one regulator is employed, the l bracket back of this button being provided with suitable marks to indicate when the damper is open or closed and also, if desired,
From a pin I, attached to this rod H, a c'hainJ passes under the sheave C and through suitably-positioned guide-pulleys to the furnace-damper, and at a pin K projects to receive the chain L, which passes over the sheave I) and is attached to a counterbalancing-weight M, said weight being-so proportioned as to counterbalance the Weight of the rod H and the pull of the damper, so that the rod will remain set in any position to which it may be moved either by manipulating the rod from above or manipulating the damper at the furnace.
In setting this regulator in position the block E will be fastened in suitable alinement with the wall above the floor, against which wall the indicator-bracket N is to be attached, and one or more holes will be bored through the floor in alijnement with the axis of the cylindrical portion of the pulley-frame when set against said block. The rod H will be passed through the floor and attached to the chains J and L and connections made with the damper. The bolt F will then be loosened and the pulley-frame turned until the sheave C isin direct alinement with the line of direction in which the chain J must be run to the damper, after which the tighteningnut on said bolt is screwed up and the parts are permanently in place.
There may be one or more of these regulators, and I have shown the block E provided for the reception of twosay one to operate the front or draft-damper of the furnace and the other to operate the check-damper. In some furnaces, however, the draft and check dampers are coupled together, so that when one is opened the other is closed, and where such is the case one regulator will be suflicient.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is I 1. In a damper-regulator, an adjustin rod, a pulley-frame having a cylindrical portion through which the rod passes, said cylindrical portion being provided with a transverse slot, a bolt passing through said slot, a
damper connection and a counterweight,
supp orti ng-block through which said b olt also passes, a nut to tighten the bolt when the chains running under and over said sheaves 15 frame is in position, two sheaves mounted in from the rod to the damper connection and the frame one above the other, a damper coni to the counterweight respectively, and means nectio'n, a chain running from the rod under l for fastening said frame in line with the damthe upper pulley to said connection, a counper connection.
terbalancmg-weight, and a chain passing In testimony whereof I have affixed my 20 signature in presence of two witnesses.
over the under pulley and connecting said t0 lower end Of I'OCl. S 2. In a damperregulator, a vertical adjusting-rod, a pulley-frame having a cylin Witnesses:
drical portion through which the rod passes, FRANCIS C. WILLIAMS,
a pair of sheaves mounted in the frame, a l MORRIS ANSOEG.
