Description
No. 848,816. 8 I PATENTED APR. 2, 1907. E. DUBRR.
' COOKING POT.
\ APPLICATION FILED n.3, 1907.
EMIL DUERR, OF BACKNANG, GERMANY.
COOKlNG-POT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 2, 1907.
Application filed January 3, 1907. Serial No. 850,600.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it l 110\ n that I, EMIL DUERR, a citizen of Germany, and a resident of Backnang, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cooking-Pots, of which the following is a specification.
Theobject of my invention is to provide a new and improved cooking-pot which is so constructed as to give an audible signal as soon as the contents begin to boil and rise, which device is simple in construction and effective in use.
In the accompanying drawings, in which like letters of reference indicate like parts in all the figures, Figure l is a vertical transverse sectional view of my improved cookingpot. F i 2 is a plan view, the gong being removed. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view through the signal mechanism. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the same, the gong being removed. Fig. 5 is a vertical sectional view of a modification of the signal mechanism. Fig. 6 is a plan view of the modification shown in Fig. 5, the gong being removed.
The float a, made of sheet metal, is provided with an upwardly-extending hollow stem 1), slitted lengthwise in its upper part and provided with an external bead or slight flange I) at its upper end, which is above the top of a neck A in the cover 0, through which neck the tubular stein passes and by which it is guided in its movements. This cover 0 has a hollow handle-knob B, containing a spring-motor C, which can be wound by means of a stem D, on which an inverted bell or gong E is screwed, which forms the top of the knob, so that by turning said gong the spring-motor is wound.
The spring-motor is locked, when wound or partly wound, by a pivoted angle-lever g, which is held normally in engagement with one of the parts of the motor by a flat spring l h. A button 7:: on one end of this lever is in the path of the rising hollow stem 6, so that when the contents of the pot boils and lifts the float the upper end of the tubular stem.
will strike against the button 7c and tilt the lever 9', thus releasing the spring-motor, whereby the hammer is operated and the gong sounded. As soon as the cover is lifted the stem b drops and the motor is locked and arrested. In the construction shown in Figs. 5 and 6 a pivoted lever g, carrying a weight it, engages a stop-pin m, which is disengaged from the spring-motor when the stem 6 rises.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination. with a pot, of a cover, a spring-motor and bell, constituting the handle of the cover, a float beneath the cover, a stem extending loosely from the float to the cover and means .operatable by said stem to release the spring-motor, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination with a pot, of a cover having a central neck, a spring-motor and bell on said cover and above the neck and constituting the handle of the cover, a latch ,for locking the spring-motor in a state of rest, a float and a stem on said float passing through said neck and guided therein, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination with a pot, of a cover having a central neck, a spring-motor on said cover and above the neck and constituting the handle of the cover, a float, a stem extendin from said float through said neck and having an external projection at its upper end, and a latch for releasing the springmotor, which latch is above the upper end of said stem, substantially as set forth.
Signed at Stuttgart, in VViirtemberg, this 11th day of December, A. D. 1906.
EMIL DUERR. l/Vitnesses ADoLF LEBHERS, ERNST ENTENMANN.
