SURGICAL-TABLE TOP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 26, 1907.
Application filed January 15, 1906. Serial No 296,175.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MARsHAL Issac YOUNG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fort Dodge, in the county of l/Vebster and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Surgical-Table Tops; and I do declare the following to be a full and exact description of the invention, such as would enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to the improvement in surgical-table tops and it consists in certain novel features of construction, combina tion, and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple and durable'surgical-table top which may be manufactured at a comparatively small cost and which may be attached to an ordinary table-base.
The above and other objects, which will appear as the natureof my invention is better understood, 'are accomplished by the construction illustrated in "the ,'accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is'a top view of my improved surgi cal-table top. Fig. 2 is a top view, with the receivin' 'top proper removed and showing the catcI basin and drain. Fig. Sis a transverse sectional view of the frame, taken at the line marked A B in Fig. 1. Fig. a is a transverse sectional view of the entire top, taken at the line marked A B, Fig. 1.
In describing the surgical-table top, Fig. 1 is a'plan'of the top, showing the receiving-top proper, a, in the form of a perforated metal sheet, the perforations being for the purpose of allowing water or other fluids to pass through the top, which is to be slightly convex and depressed somewhat at the edges. It shows the top a construoted'with a wooden frame d, having a groove formed in the upper inner edge thereof, into which groove the edges of the top a are inserted and held by the means of a calking-strip driven into the groove, as shown in Fig. 3.
Fig. 2 shows a plan of the drip-pan or catch-basin b, which is formed of a metal sheet of like extent to the top a, the edges of said sheet being fastened by a oleat in a rabbet formed in the lower inner edge of the frame, the frame (Z forming the sides of the drip-pan b, as shown. by Fig. 4:. This drippan being for the purpose'of catching and retaining the water or fluids as they 'flow Y through the topa, the drip-pan b is concave in form and has an outlet, as shown by c in Fig. 2.
Fig. 3 shows the method, above described, of connecting the perforated top proper, a, and the drip-pan b with the wood frame (1.
Fig. 4 shows a section of the surgical-table top at the same scale as the plans in Figs. 1 and 2, with the wood rim or frame (1 forming the sides of the drip-pan b and the perforated top proper, a, fitted into same.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and'desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a top for surgical tables, a frame forming the edges thereof,'a metal sheet supported by and extending completely across said frame, said sheet'having numerous and widely distributed perforations, a second metal sheet supported by and extending comletely across said frame below and spaced from said perforated sheet, said under sheet being somewhat concave in form to form a trough,'and'having an outlet-opening.
2. In a top for surgical and embalmers tables, a thick'frame forming the edges thereof and having a groove formed in its inner edge, a metal sheet supported by and extending completely across said frame, the edge of said sheet inserted into said groove in the:
frame and 'held therein by a calkin -strip driven into and completely filling t e remaining space of the groove, whereby a water-tightjoint'isformed between the sheet andframe.
3. In a top for surgical or embalming tables, a thick frame'forming the edges thereof, and having a groove formed in its inner edge a distance from the top surface thereof, and having a rabbet formed at its lower inner corner, two metal sheets supported by and extending completely across said frame, one of said'sheets being perforated and having its edges inserted and fastened into'said groove, the other sheet having its edges inset and fastened in the rabbet, said'latter sheethaving a drain-opening.
In testimony thereof I hereunto set my hand in the'presence'of two subscribingWitnesses.
MARsHAL ssAdYoUNc.
