Be it known that 1, Jonas HUssEn, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had thereinto the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to antireiillable botties; and the invention has for its object to provide positive and reliable means for pre venting a bottle from being filled after it has been used.
My invention aims to provide a bottle particularly adapted for the popular brands of medicines and spirituous liquids, it being a well-known fact that persons resort to the nefarious practice of using old bottles and filling them with an imitation medicine or liqnd with fraudulent intention. In this connection my invention aims to break up this practice and provide a bottle that cannot be refilled without detection.
The detail construction of my improved bottle will be presently described and then specifically pointed out in the appended claims, and referring to the drawings, forming part of this specification, like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which- Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a portion of the bottle constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 01; ac, the weighted closure thereof being removed. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the weighted closure, partly in elevation. Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view of a portion of my improved bottle in an inverted position.
My improved bottle comprises a suitable receptacle or body portion 1, having an interiorly-screw-threaded stub-neck 2, which is provided with a pierced boss or eyelet 3. The neck proper, which I have designated 4, is provided with a depending contracted. exteriorly-threaded sleeve 5, by which the neck 4 is secured to the receptacle or bodyl. The neck intermediate its ends is provided with interior screw-threads 6 and a seat 7, and directly above the seat is blown or otherwise placed therein a cup or hood 8, having circumferentially-arranged openings 9.
Mounted in the neck 4 and engaging the threads 6 is a horizontal partition or plug 10, having a seat 11 formed in its upper end.
The partition or plug 10 is provided with angularly-disposed openings 12 and with a central tapering opening 14, the former openings surrounding the latter. Engaging in the seat 11 of the partition or plug 10 is a spherical closure 15, having a semispherical resilient gasket 16 to insure a positive and nonleakable connection between the seat 11 and the (lOStLO 15. Threaded in the closure 15 is a depending stem 17, carrying a weight 18, preferably in the form of a spherical body or ball.
The top of the neck 4 is adapted to receive a conventional form of stopper 19, having a gasket 20, while the lower edge of the neck 4 is provided with a pierced boss or eyelet 21, said eyelet being connected to the eyelet 3 by a seal 22 either of blown glass or soft metal.
In practice the weighted closure 15 is first placed in the horizontal partition or plug 10 and then said plug is mounted in the neck 4, this being accomplished before said neck is attached to the receptacleo r body of the bottle. After the bottle has been filled the neck 4 is placed in engagement therewith and locked by the seal 22. The upper end of the neck is then provided with an ordinary stopper. Should it be desired to remove the contents of the bottle, the stopper 19 is removed and the bottle inverted. The weighted closure 15 assumes the position shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings, which permits of the contents of the bottle passing around the Weight 18 through the openings 12 and cup or hood 8. Upon the bottle being placed in an upright position the weighted closure 15 immediately assumes its normal position, closing the openings 12 and preventing it from being poured into the bottle through the neck 4.
The perforated cup or hood 8 is employed to prevent the insertion of a tool or instrument within the neck 4 for raising the closure 15.
111 case the bottle is refilled it is an easy matter to detect the same by the appearance of the seal 22, which would have to be renewed, and if the same is made of blown glass it would be almost impossible for the exact construction of the seal to be copied.
The various parts of my improved bottle are preferably made of glass or material not affected by the liquid contained Within the bottle.
It is obvious that my invention can be readily used in connection with various types of bottles, and for this reason I do not care to confine myself to the size of the various elements of my invention.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A bottle embodying a receptacle having an interiorly-screW-threaded stubneck, a neck, a depending threaded sleeve carried by said neck and adapted to engage in said stubneck, a perforated cup formed in said neck, a plug threaded in said neck and having a plurality of circumferentially-arranged openings formed therein, a Weighted closure normally closing said openings, a semispherical gasket carried by said closure, a stopper fitting in the upper end of said neck, an eX-teriorly-arranged seal connecting said neck With said stub-neck, substantially as described.
2. A bottle embodying a receptacle, a neck threaded in said receptacle, a perforated cup formed in said neck, a plug detachably mounted in said neck and having angularlydisposed openings formed therein, a Weighted closure normally closing said openings, and an exteriorly-arranged seal connecting said neck with said receptacle.
3. An antirefillable bottle consisting of a receptacle, a neck detachably attached thereto, a perforated cup formed in said neck, a plug mounted in said neck and having openings formed therein, a Weighted closure normally closing said openings, and means to lock said neck in engagement With said receptacle.
