Specification of Letters Patent.

Be it known that I, JOHN A. VYE, a citizen of the United States, residin at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and btate of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Grass-Catchers for Lawn- Mowers, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in i grass-catchers for lawn-mowers, and has for its object to produce an efficient, simple, durable, and easily-adjusted grass-receptacle for the lawn-mower.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a lawn-mower of ordinary type with my improved grass-catcher attached. Fig. 2 is a detail showing the connections between I the lawn-mower and the front of my device. Fig. 3 is a detached view of the an le-bolt which I substitute for the bolt ordinarily used to hold the roller of the lawirmo wer in position. Fig. 4 is a detail showing parts of a lawn-mower as usually connected. Fig. 5 shows the same arts after the angle-bolt has been substituted for the bolt shown in Fig. 4.

In the drawings, A is a lawn-mower of ordinary construction, and B my grass-catcher in position upon the lawn-mower. I prefer to construct the basket C of the catcher of galvanized wire-cloth, framed and supported by galvanized iron rods.

1 is the frame, and 2 the body of the basket. The up er side of the rear of the frame is provided with a loop 3, adapted to be carried by a hook 4, screwed into the handle of the lawn-mower. In order to allow for play of the grass-catcher on the lawnmower, the hook roper is placed at right angles to the handlb, as shown in Fig. 1, instead of parallel with the handle.

Attached to the top of the forward end of the catcher hangers 5 are placed, each of which has at its lower end a curved finger 6. I prefer to make both this hanger and the loop 3 integral with the frame of the basket.

In lawn-mowers of ordinary construction the roller is held in osition in the castings by bolts 7, one of Which is shown on Fig. 4 of the drawings. This bolt I remove, and in place thereof the angle-bolt 8 is inserted. Said angle-bolt is provided with an offset exten- I sion 9, about which the curved finger 6 of the l hanger 5 is placed. The basket is also provided with a bail 10 to facilitate carrying away and disposing of the grass after cutting. 5 5

In use the bolts 7 found in the lawn-mower are removed and the angle-bolts 8 are substituted. The curved fingers 6 of the hangers are placed over the outwardly-projecting extensions 9 on the angle-bolts. The grasscatcher is then held in position under the handle of the lawnmower, the hook 4 is screwed into the handle with the opening at the side, and the loop 3 is suspended from the hook, after which the nut 11 on the anglebolt is turned home and the extensions 9 become rigid. After the device has been so adjusted to the lawn-mower it can be removed by merely lifting it out of position and again attached by hanging it upon the support 9 and hook 4.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to protect by Lettors Patent, is

1. A grass-catcher, in combination with a lawn-mower, a bolt having an offset extension adapted to support the forward end of the catcher, and a loop and hook for holding the rear end thereof.

2. A grass-catcher having a bail, in coinbi- 8o nation with a lawn-mower, a bolt having an offset extension adapted to su port the forward end of the catcher and a l oop and hook for holding the rear end thereof.

3. A grasscatcher, having a loop on its rear and hangers with curved fingers upon its front end, in combination with a lawnmower, bolts having offset extensions adapted to support said curved fingers and a hook upon the handle of the mower for holding said loop.

4. A grass-catcher having a bail, loop and curved fingers, bolts each of which is rovided with an offset extension adapte to support one of said fingers and a hook to 5 hold the loop.
