To all whom t mag/concern:
Be it known that I, CONRAD A. GRIMM, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in N on-Refillable Bottles, of which the. following is a specification.
This invention provides novel means for preventing the reuse of bottles and similar receptacles after being emptied of their contents, thereby preventing the perpetration of fraud upon the proprietor or dispenser of a particular brand of goods and insuring the c onlumer obtaining the .brand of goods desire For a full description of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction and the means for edecting the result reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings.
While the invention may be adapted to diiferent forms and conditions by changes in the structure and minor details without departino from the spirit or essential features thereof, still the preferred embodiment is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a central view of the upper portion of a bottle provided with protective means guarding against refilling embodying the essential features of the invention, the

' Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
The protective means embodies a hollow body or shell 1, closed at opposite ends and having an outer flange 2 at its upper end to overlap the neck 3 of the bottle 4 or like receptacle. The hollow body or shell 1 may be formed of any material best adapted for the purpose, and its upper end has a centrallydisposed opening surrounded by means of a rim 5, which is externally threaded to receive a cap 6, by means of which the body or shell is closed, thereby preventing the contents of the bottle or receptacle escaping in the event of its becoming upset. Near the upper end vof the body or shell 1 is located a partition 7, which has an imperforate portion 8 and a perforate portion 9, said partition being secured in place in convenient and substantial way or formed with the body or shell. A valved partition 10 is arranged within the body or shell intermediate of its ends and is 6o provided with a flap-valve 11, which Ais adapted to close downward, thereby preventing the refilling of the body when the same is placed in an upright position. Inner ledges alinement with the imperforate portion Sof 7o the partition 7 ,7 thereby insuring the liquid contents coming in the rear of the valve 1 1, so as to force the same closed when the bottle occupies an upright position.
For retaining the guard or protective means in place a series of spring-actuated lock-pins 14 are provided, the same `being mounted in openings 15, formed in the bottom or inner end of the body or shell 1. The lock-pins 14 are held projected by means of springs 16, which are placed in the openings 15 and are normally expanded. When placing the guard or protector in the neck of the bottle or receptacle, the lock devices are pressed inward to admit of the inner end of the body or shell 1 being inserted in the neck of said bottle, and after the said pins clear the inner end of the neck they spring outward bythe action of the springs 16 and en- .gage under the inner end ofthe neck 0r the shoulder formed between said neck and the top of the bottle, and thereby prevent removal of the protector. In order to afford ready egress for the liquid contents of the bottle, openings 17 are formed in the inner end or bottom of the bottle body or shell, said openings being provided in the parts arranged between the spring-actuated lock devices, as shown most clearly in Fig. 3.
In order to obtain a close it between the guard or protector and the inner side of the neck 3 of the bottle or receptacle, a sleeve 18, of cork or other material, is slipped upon the body or shell 1 and is compressed when the protector is in position and conforms to any irregularities in the opposing walls of said protector and the neck 3. It is to be understood that the protector will be provided in various sizes according to the standard or other sizes of bottles and receptacles for which designed. been filled, and after said lbottle has been emptied it cannot be filled when placed in an upright position because of the normal tendency of the valve l1 to close upon its seat. To remove the protector or guard for use in connection with any other bottle, it is necessary to break the bottle to which the said guard has been fitted, thereby resultin in destruction of the original bottle or pac age and as a result preventing imposition upon the proprietor of a particular brand of goods and the consumer desiring to obtain said goods.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. Protective means for bottles and the like, the same comprising a hollow body or shell, a partition near the outer end of the shell having an imperforate and a perforate portion, and a valved partition located within the hollow body and having an upwardlyopening valve arranged in line with the imperforate portion of the aforementioned partition.
2. In protective means for bottles and the like, a hollow body having an outer flange at its outer end and having its ends closed and egress-openings formed in the closed ends, the opening in the outer end adapted to have a closure fitted thereto, a partition arranged within the hollow body near its outer end and comprising an imperforate and a perforate portion, and a valved partition arranged about midway of the hollow body and provided with an upwardly-opening flap-valve arranged opposite to and in line with the imn perforate ortion of the aforesaid partition.
3. The erein-described protector for bottles or the like comprising a hollow body closed at opposite ends and having an outer flange at its outer end and having a series of openings in its inner end, spring-actuated lock devices itted in the openings at the inner end of said hollow body, a partition near the outer end of the hollow body comprising an imperforate and a perforate portion, a valve-partition intermediate the ends of the hollow body and having alap-valve adapted to open upward, a stop for limiting the opening movement of the flap-valve, the latter being arranged opposite to the imperforate ortion of the aforesaid partition, and a cap tor closing the opening in the outer end of the hollow body, the inner end of said hollow body having egress-openings in the portions between said spring-actuated Ilock devices.
