JOHN W. PRIDMORE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER COMPANY, A CORPORATION OF NEW JERSEY.
HARVESTER-GUARD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 12, 1907.
Application filed be 2, 1906. Serial No. 341.798.
To all whom, it may concern:
To secure the forward end of the combined Be it known that I, JOHN W. PRIDMORE, a ledger-plate and tongue in place and to precitizen of the United States, residing at Ohicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in HarvesterGuards, of which the following is a specification, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
My invention relates to harvester-guards, and consists in separable body ledger-plate and tongue portions, and means for securing the two portions together in a simple and ellicient manner, the object being to provide a guard having a tongueless body portion that may be forged from a block of steel in a manner adapting it to receive and have secured thereto the ledger-plate and tongue portion that is formed from a separate piece.
Referring to the drawings, l igure 1 is a plan view of a complete guard with the ledger-plate and tongue portion secured thereto. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of 1, with the forward end of the le tiger-plate and tongue portion shown partly in section, indicating themanner of securing the two parts together. l ig. 3 represents a plan view of a modified form of guard and ledger-plate and tongue portion embodying my invention. Fig. 1 is a side elevation of big. 3, and I ig. 5 is a plan view of a blank from which the ledger-plate and tongue portion is formed.
The same reference-numerals designate similar parts throughout the several views.
1 represents what may be termed the body portion of a guard.
2 is the heel portion, having the usual vertical opening therethrough and by means of which the guard is secured to the cutter-bar in the well-known way.
3 is a shelf portion arranged in a plane above the heel portion and forward thereof and adapted to form a guide for the sicklebar. I
4 indicates the usual laterally-extending side wings, and 5 the guard-point.
6 represents a ledger-plate, having its rear end secured to the body portion of the guard by means of a rivet 7, and 8 indicates the guard-tongue integral with the ledgerplate and formed by bending a blank, as shown in Fig. 5, in the form represented in the other figures.
vent lateral displacement thereof, the forward part of the body portion of the guard is provided with one or more vertically-arranged and rearWardly-extending lugs 9, adapted to overlap the forward part of the ledger-plate portion in a manner to prevent an upward movement thereof and to engage with the combined ledger-plate and tongue in a manner to prevent a lateral movement. In Figs. 1 and 2 one lug is shown as projecting through a slot formed in the combined ledger-plate and tongue extending longitudinally thereof and overlapping a part of the ledger-plate portion, and in Figs. 3 and 4 two lugs are shown overlapping. a part of the ledger-plate portion and embracing the sides of the combined plate and tongue.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A harvester-guard comprising, in combination, a tongueless body portion, a ledgerplate having its rear end secured to said body portion, a guard-tongue integral with said ledger-plate, and one or more vertically-arranged and rearwardly-extending lugs forming part of said body portion and engaging with said combined ledger-plate and tongue at its front end in a manner to prevent lateral movement thereof.
2. A harvester-guard comprising, in combination, a tongueless body portion, a ledgerplate having its rear end secured to said body portion, a guard-tongue integral with said ledger-plate, and one or more vertically-arranged and rearwardly-extending lugs forming part of said body portion and overlapping a portion of said ledger-plate and engaging with said combined ledger-plate and tongue at its front end in a manner to prevent lateral movement thereof.
3. A harvester-guard comprising, in combination, a body portion, a ledger-plate having its rear end secured to said body portion, a guard-tongue integral with said ledgerplate, a vertically-arranged and rearwardlyextending lug forming part of said body portion, said tongue and ledger-platehaving a vertically-arranged slot extending longitudinally thereof, said lug being received by said slot in a manner to prevent lateral movement of said tongue and ledger-plate.
4. A harvester-guard comprising, in oomvertically-arranged slot extending longitubination, a body portion, a ledger-plate havdinally thereof, said lug entering said slot and ing its rear end secured to said body portion, overlapping a portion of said ledger-plate.
