FREl-)ERICK H. ARNOLD, OF READING, PENNSYLVANIA.
SAFETY-RAZOR.
Specification of Letters Patent. Application tiled ugnst 24,1905. Serial No. 275.514.
Patented Feb. 5, 1907.
' safety-razorsgand the object of the present invention is to produce a safety-razor that will contain all the advantages of an. ordinary safety -device of this kind and at the saine time one that will be more compact and lneat inV appearance and of simpler construction.
The device comprises a set of blade-retaining plates held togetherby `means of a handle lyingr on the same plane as the razorblade.
The invention is fully described in the following specification andelearly illustrated.
in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a longitudinal central sectional view oi my device. Fig. 2 is a plan view, partly insection, of the same. Fig. 3 shows the razor-blade in detail. Fig. 4 shows the lower plate in detail. Fig. 5 shows the under side of the upper plate.
The numeral 1 designates the upper plate., and 2 the lower plate, between which the blade 3 is securely held. This upper plate l is formed at theA outer end with a depending,r angled hook 4 and at its inner end with a filiali-round stem (i formed on the plate 1 at this inner end, and
formed with a tapered shoulder 6,
The lower plate .2 'is formed at its outer end with a recess "7; adapted to be engaged by the hook 4, and at its inner end with an opening This plate has a half-round stem 6 with a tapered collar 6, corresponding with the one on the upper plate, and When these two stems meet they form an externally-threaded split rod.
The-razor-blade is formed with a recess 9 ateither vend adapted to be engaged by the hook 4 and lug 5.
.The handle 1.()vis hollow and is screwthreaded internally and is adapted to screw onto the rod formed by the stems on'the plates, and whenthe razor-blade is placed between the plates in engagement with the hook 4 and lug 5, which members pass i through the recesses 9, the screwing up ofthe ,handle will when it cont acts with the tapered surfaces on the collar 6a tightly compress the plates and securely h old the blade in position.
The lower plate formed with the usual guard-teeth 2X, and both plates are slightly .concaved tralisversely. i
` The ease and accuracy with which my de- Vice may be assembled are essential features, andthe fact that the device when assembled forms a'comparatively straight body of uniform vthickness permitsit to be carried with ease and comfort and to be packed in a very small case. l
Having;r thus fully described my invention,
what I' claim is A saiety-razor comprising a guard-plate having' a convex inner face and provided with a stem at one end, a clamping-plate having a concave inner face and also provided with a stem at one end, one of said plates be# ing provided with a hook it it-s'outer end and at its inner end with a lug, the other plate being,r provided with a recess'at its outer end adapt ed to receive said hook, and atA its inner end with an aperture adapted to receive said 1 lue. a flexible blade adapted' Vto be clanped u l between said plates and to conform to lthe this stein 1s screw-threaded externally and is i curvature ol'v their inner faces, said blade hav-A ing a recess at each end adapted to recelve said hook and lug, and'a tubular handle adapted to engage and hold said stems.
ln testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in presence of two witnesses.
